Scoop: Jeffries, McCarthy cut side-deal to save debt ceiling bill

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) quietly cut a deal for Democrats to vote to advance the bipartisan debt ceiling bill to a final vote, according to four Democratic lawmakers briefed on the matter.

Why it matters: The 52 Democratic votes were necessary for the bill to clear a procedural hurdle after 29 Republicans voted against moving it to last night's final vote, in which it was approved 314-117.

The details of the deal have been tightly held, but a source said they expect more details to be made available soon.

The deal involves boosting federal spending set aside for projects in Democrats’ districts, what’s known as earmarks or “community project funding,” according to two senior lawmakers.

One lawmaker said the deal boosts earmarks to Democrats to bring them "closer to parity" with what Republicans receive in such funds in the GOP-led House.

That she isn't the only one who can lead him around by the nose. He wanted this Bill to pass so she went along... not that she was all over the media touting her shit sandwich meme.

She's not secure in her grip on kevin's balls right now, he sure came out of the negotiations with a different tone.

McCarthy can't keep his speakership without the Dems, let alone get anything passed. Hakim Jeffries is going to have a lot more say as to what gets done from here on out, regardless of who is Speaker, given how divided the GOPers are right now.

What will Kevin do to keep the speakership? He will be challenged, especially if he keeps his word and boosts earmarks to Democrats.

You are jumping what needs to be done. It takes 218 to remove the Speaker BEFORE there can be a vote on another Speaker. Are you saying Dems will unite with the far right to remove him?

Actually it's 'pork' when it's in someone else's district, it's 'vitally needed infrastructure and community services' when it's in *my* district (Just like it's "Gerrymandering" when the other side does it- a joke older than the Republican party).
