Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have some REALLY GOOD NEWS that I should have started telling you about 3 months ago...
We are full time RV'ers, and have driven the road from Lake Mead rec area north to I-15 dozens of times in the last 8 years. This road is NV state route 169, and from 2016 to 2021 there were literally hundreds of Trump flags flying from almost every house and business in Overton and Logandale, the town just north of Overton.
We drove that road in late March of this year, and saw 1 (ONE) only one, one, one Trump flag in that area.
I thought of posting that then, but lazy took over, and I didn't. Sorry!
BUT KNOW...even better news.
We left a campground in Idaho Falls this morning and drove 260 miles towards Helena Montana. We spent about 6 weeks in western Montana 2 years ago, and it was all Trump flags, tents selling Trump merchandise, and stickers and flags on EVERY pickup truck we saw.
We're still just south of Helena, but...
WE HAVE NOT SEEN ONE TRUMP FLAG OR STICKER SINCE WE LEFT IDAHO FALLS!
I really don't want to get my hopes up too much, but I believe this is the beginning of the end for TFG.

(3,396 posts)The TFG's loyalty would never vote for him, and I don't think he is at all popular outside of the south-east.
Disclaimer...we haven't been in the south-east in our RV since he was elected.

(58,785 posts)Those especially loyal to leaders and those to policy and principles to be pursued by elected representatives tend to wonder about each other.
Bigger, noisier crowds come, often long distances, to cheer a leader make them all excited and glad and me concerned. Flags and social media posts always featuring their leader the same.
Meanwhile, our Democratic "crowd size" was 81 million in 2020 -- and at that, 83% of those still stayed home while they voted their ideals and goals.

and old Trump voters continue to die....
and what you said....
Recent articles have promoted the position that 2024 will "finish off the MAGAts"...
I believe it, but we still have to do the work....
Thanks for the insight.

(81,266 posts)There are many trump fans who remain solidly in denial about him, even as more bad news trails him like an inconvenient streamer of toilet paper stuck on one of his shoes.
I'm writing this on Friday, June 2nd, where so much of the evening news was about trump's being charged with 34 felonies in that hush-money case. Denial runs deep. Especially when you're heavily invested, emotionally, or with your friends or coworkers, in supporting that bastard to the bitter end. But nobody wants to get loser-stench on themselves. So maybe that proverbial bitter end isn't so far off in the distance as many of us have dreaded it might be.

(86,612 posts)The humpers down the hill have replaced their ****p flags and garb all over their doorway with "We the People" crap and altered US flags. One has the black US flag on their pu truck tail gate, whole thing painted, lucky for them they did put the asshole's name.
Most bumper stickers specifically naming him are disappearing but they are still assholes and they are still out there. Some still have their dixie flags and what not but lot are laying low. They got what they wanted out of the legislature this year so they are happy for now. Luckily they didn't gain control over the state supreme court who is striking down a lot of their attempts to change the state constitution; ban abortion; suppress the vote and subjugate the poor even further.
Glad you have witnessed it too, I'm not imagining things. Keep an eye out for flash floods right now, it's still raining for another day. All water is really high and dangerous, banks can be unstable.

(4,741 posts)We have easy access to preK-university and shopping, too, so houses don't stay on the market long.
That is until some MAGAts decided to have big ugly MAGAt displays in their yards, even on their houses (huge TFG sign attached to the upper story!).
In the midst of that insanity, someone who was selling their house lost a buyer willing to pay *more* than the already-outrageous asking price, because said buyer didn't want to live with MAGAts as neighbors.
And oh did that not sit well with the rest of the 'hood. Understand that our neighborhood is one that has a bunch of people who have lived in the neighborhood since it went up in the late 60s. They came to adulthood in the 60s and 70s, thus an age group where it was common for the men to be breadwinners and women to be homemakers. I'm on the younger end of the Boomers in our neighborhood, but many of us are living that way, too. So a bunch of those guys are doing their lawn thing or fiddling with an old car most days, and women have coffee klatsches in the morning, and play mahjongg with lemonade in the afternoon. Couples regularly get together to play cards and have backyard cookouts on the weekends. They even go shopping together--or for those who can't get around so well anymore, and some of them take vacations together, too.
With such a tight-knit community, getting shunned here is a really big deal, and so is maintaining property values. None of us are rich, so we're counting on making enough money from selling our homes to get by in our old age.
That's why those fascist displays had to come down--and fast, and the 'hood did what it took to make it so.
