a dog came onto a man’s property and was chasing his chickens. No ID visible, so that man shot and killed the dog and then reported it to Animal Control.
Turned out it was a police dog that got loose.
The man, it would seem had a right to protect his property. He was charged, and as I recall, convicted of killing the dog.
