14. I met this bloke at a pub

Who thought that I had to go home with him because he bought a drink for me when I was minding my own business and didn't ask for it at all. I hadn't even seen him until he came over while I told the barkeep I hadn't ordered the drink, didn't want it. The guy came over and started getting too friendly, pawing at me, saying to drink up, he'd paid.

I didn't care--I didn't take drinks from strangers. It wasn't called roofies back then, but a co-worker of mine got roofied at a posh bar, woke up bleeding and bruised from an attack she couldn't even remember. She'd taken a drink a "stranger across the room" bought for her without her knowledge. That's the last thing she remembered before waking up in pain in an alley, tossed aside like yesterday's rubbish.

After that, I refused to drink anything given to me at a bar that I didn't request myself.

Anyway, I refused to take the drink, and the "stranger across the room" got all huffy, insisted that I "owed" him for the drink--owed him my body at his flat.

No, I didn't. I didn't ask for the drink, didn't want it, hadn't touched it. I owed him bugger all. So he said what nearly every woman has heard at some point after rejecting a complete tosser:

"What, are you a lesbian?"

"Are you the alternative? Because I'd rather be with a woman than some wanker who thinks so little of me that he believes a drink can get me in bed with him."

Let's say he did not take that response well, but it felt good saying it to him.
