House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland on Tuesday, demanding an "unredacted copy" of the Justice Department appointment memoradum authorizing special counsel Jack Smith's investigations of former President Donald Trump.
Smith is overseeing two investigations that touch on the former president: the ongoing federal probe into the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, and the unauthorized retention of classified documents at Trump's Mar-a-Lago country club, which sources say is wrapping up with a charging decision imminent.
"The Committee on the Judiciary has jurisdiction to oversee the activities of the Jusrice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation," the letter concluded.

(2,170 posts)I'm in Ohio, not in his district, but Gym is a major embarrassment to Ohio. His district is so jerrymandered, it's a joke. He watched young men being molested at Ohio State. He is another MTG, nothing ever accomplished.
He can pound sand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(3 posts)..while Article 1 needs to be respected and strengthened more than ever in this age of the threat of authoritarianism, Jim Jordan is purposefully making proposals, the very purpose of which is to actually weaken Congress (ultimately) by tearing down our institutions (the mythical - and actually non-existent so-called deep state).
The other branches must therefore squelch these kinds of gambits in their infancy by ignoring them, utterly. When appropriate, but only when absolutely necessary and wise strategically, the Executive and Judicial branches must skillfully oppose and defeat them.
(Obviously the top of the Judicial branch is a last resort, and Supreme Court practitioners will know of the rare cases where the attempt to appeal is wise.)

(7,849 posts)barely taking the House, Jordan wrote a letter to Garland demanding he turn over all files pertaining to the January 6 and MAL stolen documents investigations...Garland politely told him to fuck off and appointed a special counsel in order to keep the ongoing investigations out of Jordan's traitorous reach...

(11,736 posts)what they have failed to learn is that there are limits to the effectiveness of shamelessness and HUGE downsides. They have also failed to learn the lessons from when they have fallen throughout history.
Let's hope that the next fall will be soon, will be the biggest and hopefully permanent, and will not drag the rest of the country down.
