Judge grants request for George Santos's bond sponsors to be unsealed

A federal judge Tuesday granted media organizations’ requests to unseal the names of the people who cosigned Rep. George Santos’s (R-N.Y.) $500,000 bond in his criminal fraud case.

The order is a blow to Santos, whose attorney Monday asked a judge to keep the names of the bond cosigners sealed. The congressman’s lawyer, Joseph Murray, expressed concern for the sponsors should their identities be revealed, citing a “media frenzy” around the Santos case.

Even if little Jimmy got the bail money from parents for theft, the parents names should be known or a bail bondsman company or wherever the money came from.

I expect that in 99.9% of cases, nobody would care or even bother to look but... In those cases where people do care, I expect it would be in the public interest to have it be public knowledge.

In fact, I admit to being confused as to why it is ever non-public information.
I can't see how it negatively impacts the suretor unless they themselves have something to hide.

Best ale I ever had was a true cask ale at a pub in Hyde, England. I forget the brewer, but they were local to Manchester.
Fantastic!
I don't drink much, so I prefer NA or Zero beers. I like beer, but don't care for the alcohol buzz.
But, if I could get that ale here, I'd have one every day.

I cant remember if it was better in St James Gate or here... All good to me. YMMV

Looks to be an upstanding dude.

Guo claimed to be exiled from his home in China for blowing the whistle on corruption, and has fashioned himself as a patron of right-wing rabble-rousers, including Steve Bannon (who himself is under indictment for allegations that he oversaw a fraud scheme that stole money from political supporters). Forbes calculated his net worth to be $1.1 billion in 2015, and more recent media reports have referred to him as a billionaire. Some experts believe Guo may be a spy for China.

One of Guo's and Bannon's projects is the New Federal State of China, which purports to be a government in exile that will take over China once the Chinese Communist Party is overthrown. Prosecutors allege Guo illegally took money from the Rule of Law Foundation and the Rule of Law Society, two nonprofits he founded that have similar policy objectives. (Guo and Bannon have both pleaded not guilty in their respective cases.)

The judge overseeing Guo's case denied giving him bail, siding with prosecutors who argued he was a flight risk because of his vast wealth, ties abroad, and connections to powerful people.

"Miles Guo has been detained since March 15 without bail? The #CCP corruption runs deep," Santos tweeted on May 4, using another one of Guo's many names. (An affinity for using multiple names, which are variations of each other, is something Guo shares with George Anthony Devolder Santos.)

Surely they posted George's bail out of the goodness of their hearts, and not with any expectation of favorable consideration by a sitting member of Congress.

VERY okay with that, too. The public deserves to know where those who claim to represent us get their money. That’ll always reveal who those representatives are beholden to.
