The latest twist in the inquiry into former President Donald J. Trumps handling of classified documents is the surprise revelation that a previously unknown federal grand jury in Florida has recently started hearing testimony in the case.
The grand jury in Florida is separate from the one that has been sitting for months in Washington and has been the center of activity for prosecutors as they investigate whether Mr. Trump mishandled classified documents after leaving office or obstructed efforts to retrieve them. Among those who have appeared before the Washington grand jury in the past few months or have been subpoenaed by it, people familiar with the investigation said, are more than 20 members of Mr. Trumps Secret Service security detail.
But there are indications that the Washington grand jury located in the citys federal courthouse may have stopped hearing witness testimony in recent weeks, according to three people familiar with its workings. As for the Florida grand jury, which began hearing evidence last month, only a handful of witnesses have testified to it or are scheduled to appear before it, according to the people familiar with its workings. At least one witness has already testified there, and another is set to testify on Wednesday.
It is an open question why prosecutors impaneled the Florida grand jury which is sitting in Federal District Court in Miami and whether it is now the only one hearing testimony. This uncertainty, which is largely due to the secret nature of grand juries, serves to underscore how much about the management of the documents case by the special counsel Jack Smith remains out of public view.

(21,417 posts)Florida grand jury for that since it occurred in DC.
I can guess that it might need a different grand jury since it is separate from the documents case. But why Florida?

(128,699 posts)but the fact that they testified in a grand jury at all, was thrown in the article more as a filler FYI.
From the NYT excerpt -
He does have a SS detail at MAL (and where ever he goes) so it's possible that some of that staff could have testified or could testify if needed in the FL grand jury with respect to whether they saw boxes moved.

If so, they are also in deep shit, hence the FL GJ.

(128,699 posts)who gave quite a detailed description of what happened as it was told to her, which was 2nd hand info. Talking to the SS who were in or around the limo, would obviously get the narrative first hand (under penalty of perjury).

I would love more details from the SS driver that trump lunged at from the back seat when he tried to grab the steering wheel.

Mr. Meadows was around for pivotal moments leading up to and after the 2020 election, as Mr. Trump plotted to try to stay in office and thwart Joseph R. Biden Jr. from being sworn in to succeed him. Some of them were described in hundreds of text messages that Mr. Meadows turned over to the House select committee that investigated the Jan. 6 attack at the Capitol before he decided to stop cooperating. Those texts served as a road map for House investigators.
But Mr. Meadows also has insight into efforts by the National Archives to retrieve roughly two dozen boxes of presidential material that officials had been told Mr. Trump took with him when he left the White House in January 2021. Mr. Meadows was one of Mr. Trumps representatives to the archives, and he had some role in trying to discuss the matter with Mr. Trump, according to two people briefed on the matter.
Mr. Meadows is also now connected tangentially to a potentially vital piece of evidence that investigators uncovered in recent months: an audio recording of an interview that Mr. Trump gave to two people assisting Mr. Meadows in writing a memoir of his White House years.
Mr. Meadows did not attend the meeting, which took place in July 2021 at Mr. Trumps club at Bedminster, N.J. During the meeting, Mr. Trump referred to a document he appeared to have in front of him and suggested that he should have declassified it but that he no longer could, since he was out of office.

(4,197 posts)asking all of them in detail about any people seen going in and out of the areas of the document locations, any packages or boxes observed, any recognition of who the "visitors" have been and any "packages/boxes" going in or out. They should also be asked about any transfers of "luggage/boxes" etc. between Mar-uh-Ghastly and Bedminster.
