Magats Are Full Of Cortisol

I live in a crime free small borough, don't bother to lock my doors. My town is full of Magats who keep loaded guns in their houses.

Why the difference? It has to do with the brain. The right amygdala of the brain that controls the fight or flight response is more pronounced in Magats. If someone were to knock at my front door, I would open the door. If someone were to knock on my Magat neighbor's door he/she may fire a shot through the door.

Maybe we are approaching the rise in hate crimes, the rise in fear of the other, the wrong way, it is a physical condition. Magats hate minorities, Jews, women, LGBTQ people, because they fear them.

Can we put something in the water or food of Magats to reduce the right amygdala of their brains?

I asked a Magat why he was so afraid that he had to keep a loaded gun in his house, he answered, I keep a loaded gun in my house so that I am not afraid.

This obviously makes these people more susceptible to fear mongering propaganda that they watch on Fox. They can't help themselves, their brains won't let them.

But that response you got from the magat is interesting. He acknowledges that he is fearful, but skirts your question and doesn't answer the question, which is "What are you afraid of?" I wonder if he would be able to answer it. I wonder if he even understands what he is afraid of.

I would be able to tell him what he's afraid of. You would be able to tell him what he's afraid of. But I wonder if he even knows.

It makes them feel powerful in a big scary world that they otherwise have little control over.

I currently live in Texas where there are more guns than people. The ones I see open carrying look like wannabe tough guys for the most part. But at least they’re identifiable, the ones who conceal carry concern me more. You never know what might set them off and if you’ll have time to get out of the way. Makes it hard to be situationally aware when you can’t identify the situation. When I lived in the Bay Area there were areas you know to avoid and if I had to be in one I just heightened my awareness of activity and escape routes. Still never felt the need to be strapped.

The reaction begins in the amygdala, which triggers a neural response in the hypothalamus. The initial reaction is followed by activation of the pituitary gland and secretion of the hormone ACTH.[14] The adrenal gland is activated almost simultaneously, via the sympathetic nervous system, and releases the hormone epinephrine. The release of chemical messengers results in the production of the hormone cortisol, which increases blood pressure, blood sugar, and suppresses the immune system.[15] The initial response and subsequent reactions are triggered in an effort to create a boost of energy. This boost of energy is activated by epinephrine binding to liver cells and the subsequent production of glucose.[16] Additionally, the circulation of cortisol functions to turn fatty acids into available energy, which prepares muscles throughout the body for response.[17] Catecholamine hormones, such as adrenaline (epinephrine) or noradrenaline (norepinephrine), facilitate immediate physical reactions associated with a preparation for violent muscular action and

and I’m not really sure what people mean by it - cortisol, dopamine, serotonin - all being used a lot on social media.

Sure, cortisol is involved in the waking body (cortisol surge) and part of the adrenergic cascade - , but when I think of someone full of cortisol, I think of Cushing’s disease (overproduction of ACTH by a pituitary tumor typically) or Cushing’s syndrome (typically due to exogenous steroids as described two posts down), characterized by a big round moon face, a buffalo hump between the shoulders, truncal obesity, easy bruising/capillary fragility, muscle wasting, etc.

Epinephrine (or Adrenalin) is released from the adrenal medulla (the inside) in response the sympathetic nervous system activation, whereas cortisol is released from the adrenal cortex in response to ACTH release and in turn does a lot of things as you note - modulate BP, blood glucose, suppress immune system- slower onset but more sustained effect.

Cortisol plays an important role in a number of things your body does-like the following:

- Manages how your body uses carbohydrates, fats, and proteins
- Keeps inflammation down
- Regulates your blood pressure
- Increases your blood sugar (glucose)
- Controls your sleep/wake cycle
- Boosts energy so you can handle stress and restores balance afterward

I am a liberal, I own a gun and have cortisol. I also just became a diabetic so I have to mediate and exercise about an hour a day to keep the stress down and my numbers low. Had Covid for 4 weeks during Christmas and coffee tasted like a sewer pipe. I became a sugar fiend for about 2 months. I am on meds but think I can beat it through lifestyle management.

As a doctor, what would you recommend the OP put in the water supply to remedy the situation?

For the Eye disease I have. I gained 35 pounds in less than 3 months, had pounding in my neck, gall bladder attacks, developing bi-polar characteristics, irregular periods, felt like sn 8 cylinder engine running on 5, etc.

The Weight gain was due to the over production of Cortisol from the Adrenal glands. I also could eat a sensible meal and 30 minutes later, feel as though I did not eat all day. I was a Lifetime member of Weight Watchers then, jogged 30 miles a week, and went to the gym most everyday.

Talk about FEAR.

a lot of prednisone. I have taken prednisone for rheumatoid arthritis since I was 18 ( though I have had RA since I was nine, they would not give it to me as a child) and am in my sixties now. When I was younger the most I took was 15mg and gradually the doctor(s) dropped it and I take 2mg a day. Unfortunately taking prednisone for so long comes the chance of high blood pressure, osteoporosis and many other nasty side affects.

although I'm not sure telling everyone you keep your doors unlocked is a good plan either. I've had a neighbor's dog come over to visit while I was cooking. But people have been burgled or sexually assaulted in low crime neighborhoods.

Nextdoor has become fear mongwering and little more. Crime is low, it is not skyrocketing, in fact murders are going way down so far this year. But NextDoor is full of people reporting the types of petty crimes you used to live near to a decade ago, but had no idea were happening.

Car break ins are less common today than they were 10 or 20 years ago, but today, if you check Nextdoor, you'll read about nearly every single one of them.

"With car breakins more and more common now..."
"With this type of theft occurring more and more often."
"With car theft on the rise."

No one ever asks, "Are car breakins really going up in my neighborhood?" Are car thefts up?"

In many neighborhoods, these crimes are actually more and more rare, but no one ever mentions that. It's just an accepted fact on those apps that crime is rising, every type of crime, and it's rising everywhere and in every neighborhood.

Green tea is very high in L-theanine, which is why they market green tea extracts for weight loss as cortisol causes fat to deposit in the abdominal area, but it also causes wrinkled skin and grey hair.

So maybe we should dump a bunch of green tea in the water supply.
