A white woman charged with fatally shooting her Black neighbor through a door has a history of harassing area children and using racial slurs against them, neighbors said Wednesday.
Susan Louise Lorincz, 58, was arrested Tuesday on charges of manslaughter with a firearm, culpable negligence, battery and two counts of assault, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. Manslaughter with a firearm is a felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
The arrest came days after authorities said Lorincz shot Ajike AJ Owens, a 35-year-old mother of four, through a closed door in Ocala on Friday night. At least two of Owens' children witnessed the shooting, according to the sheriffs office, which was criticized by civil rights attorney Ben Crump and the grieving family over the pace of the investigation.
It was not immediately clear whether Lorincz, who is being held in the Marion County Jail, had an attorney who could speak on her behalf.
In interviews with NBC News, neighbors recalled the times they said the suspect recorded their children, taunted them with slurs, called the police and waved guns at them just for being kids.

Worse than a Karen and should have been locked up years ago.

(69,373 posts)The focus on "Karens" is a distraction. It sounds like this community had reason to fear this woman, who was a walking time bomb. Instead of taking the threat seriously, they laughed about their "Karen" until she finally killed somebody.
Let's stop labeling certain women as "Karens" and start taking it more seriously when men and women behave in ways that are obvious threats.
How many males planning mass murders were overlooked while twitter was laughing about some Karen? Think about it.

(69,373 posts)While we're all laughing and pointing fingers at "Karens," actual threats get overlooked. This woman was called a "Karen" by a community she was literally terrorizing. She finally killed somebody. She wasn't a Karen. She's a killer.
I'm just saying that maybe we could drop the snickering and virtue-signaling, and instead focus on criminal behavior, like gun brandishing, property damage, and lethal threats.
Doing so in this case might have prevented a murder.

(2,307 posts)When White Women
stop using the privilege of color to demean others and cause them to be arrested or worse.
Then there will be no need to use the word Karen. She should have been arrested before for harassing those children but her skin color was her shield . Think about people who are on the receiving end of these monsters and whatever words they use to get through their day.

(69,373 posts)White people (women AND men) who exhibit threatening behavior toward people of color need to be taken seriously.
Instead, too often, the internet lights up over some white woman who is being rude and making a fool of herself, while ignoring the obvious dangerous, criminal behavior of others.
"Karen" has become a sexist distraction. Let's focus on the people who are making threats.

(2,307 posts)Sometimes its just why dont you speak American or you people dont want to work or the latest Fox News tripe. It is a way to handle the micro aggressions. Allow people to handle their pain however they choose too.

(69,373 posts)Sexism is also a huge problem. And some of the women demonized as Karens weren't doing anything particularly racist.
Mostly, I'm reacting to the quotes in this article about the kids and their families laughing at this deranged person and calling her a Karen. Reframing her behavior as a Karen may have led to their not taking her as seriously as was needed.
She wasn't a Karen. She was a killer.

(69,373 posts)The sheriff's press conference was a disgrace. Making it sound like "both sides" were at fault when this woman had been making racist threats for some time, brandishing a gun at children, damaging property, etc.

(17,435 posts)Seems like a history of violence and threats should have resulted in every fucking weapon in her house being confiscated.
Is the definition of "responsible gun owner" simply someone who threatens violence and has a history of harassment, but just hasn't shot anyone yet?
I mean FUCK! If anyone in the world demonstrated this kind of repeated behavior, THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE ACCESS TO GUNS!

(9,067 posts)"I was frightened, felt threatened and was standing my ground" defense is coming. There will undoubtedly be right wing hacks raising money for her and/or providing legal services. DeSenseless will likely announce an intent to pardon her just so Greg Abbott doesn't get all the glory for trying to defend a murderer.

This old gal should have lost her right to keep and bear arms a long time ago. Sane laws would have done that.

Noise ordinances? I don't know. This got ignored by authorities and as a result somebody was murdered.

It took long enough to arrest this murderer. Yet no murder charge because stand your ground legalizes murder.

(14,405 posts)He lived on the second floor. If the kids would play anywhere between the buildings, even running between them on their way to the backyards, he would yell nasty things at them, no matter what time of day it was. We didn't have kids at the time, but even so I got mad and told him to shut up one day. The time he poured bleach on one of them from his window was the last straw. I got furious and called the cops, who didn't do much but talk to him, and the landlord. I don't know what the landlord said to him, but he moved out the next month.
