https://www.axios.com/2023/06/07/fox-news-tucker-carlson-contract-breachFox News Wednesday notified Tucker Carlson's lawyers that the former prime-time anchor violated his contract with the network when he launched his own Twitter show on Tuesday, according to a copy of a letter obtained by Axios.
Why it matters: A breach of contract claim sets Fox News up to explore potential legal action against Carlson, a move that would intensify the already thorny public battle between the two parties.
Carlsons lawyers told Axios that any legal action by Fox would violate his First Amendment rights.
Fox defends its very existence on freedom of speech grounds. Now they want to take Tucker Carlsons right to speak freely away from him because he took to social media to share his thoughts on current events," said Carlson's lawyer, Bryan Freedman, in a statement to Axios.
Catch up quick: Carlson was ousted from Fox News in April following a record $787 million defamation settlement with Dominion Voting Systems, which sued the network for making false claims about the company.

(33,424 posts)The first episode of Tucker Carlsons new show on Twitter earned tens of millions of views on the platform.
The 10-minute video, posted Tuesday evening, had been viewed about 73 million times by noon Wednesday, though that figure does not indicate how many individual users viewed the video or how long they watched for.

They never really benefit the employee. If you are lucky, you might get a signing bonus in trade. Mostly you get zip.
The courts generally don't like to keep a man from working and have been meh on enforcing these.

(5,060 posts)When we separate, we get nothing from the company. Carlson is still getting paid till his contract expires without actually having to work. So yeah, in this case, I think the non-compete should work because he is literally still getting paid by Fox News.
I agree with you on non-compete for normal people though.
If the company I signed a non-compete with would pay me till my non-compete period is over, I would have no problem with it.

Claustrum
(5,060 posts)He is still having a contract with Fox News and Fox News is still paying till the contract expires. He is violating the employment contract with Fox News.
If Fox News isn't paying him till the contract period is up, then it would be a non-compete problem.

(9,072 posts)He should just cash his checks, hit the couch, and binge watch some Judge Judy and The Price Is Right all day.
If some company wants to sponsor me to not work, that's probably what I'd do.

Who counts as a viewer?
Anyone who is logged into Twitter who views a Tweet counts as a view, regardless of where they see the Tweet (e.g. Home, Search, Profiles, etc.) or whether or not they follow the author. If youre the author, looking at your own Tweet also counts as a view.
WarGamer
(18,859 posts)The average Musk tweet gets 25-30M views... TC video is up to 135M views now
