I don't know how to explain this properly.
I'm not one to fawn over celebrities or personalities. But as a straight male, I think I'm kind of in love with the guy, and scared shitless of him at the same time.
And I'm not sure what it is.
The way he carries himself? His prosecutorial history? Some kind of aura that he has?
He looks like just a regular guy, but he's a scary mofo at the same time.
Please don't chastise me about celebrity worship or anything like that, because that's not what I'm saying here.
I don't impress easily, but I'm impressed as hell by his seemingly no-nonsense manner and the speed at which he handled this investigation.
My opinion is that it's pretty much a guarantee that he will have a successful prosecution.

(59,522 posts)Basically, the people we are used to seeing fall into four categories:.
First are the blustering, bullying guys - usually but not exclusively guys - who think they're alpha, and who actually think alpha is a thing. They're unevolved and really stupid. Examples: trump and gym and gaetz and empty green and all the magats who were in the capital on January 6.
Second are people who kiss the asses of those first kinds of guys in ways that are just cringe worthy even to witness. They gain and hold power at the pleasure of the first kind.
Third are those who tiptoe around the first kind. Some of our own are guilty of this, though I think they do it for sincere though misguided reasons.
And finally, there are our men and women in politics who are brave and erudite, but they are stuck in a position where they are always fighting the first three kinds of people, so they are often imprisoned in a nuthouse. And they are not the ones who generally capture the news cycle.
Jack Smith is another kind of person altogether. He doesn't need to bluster. He has power and he knows what to do with it. He doesn't need to capture any news cycle, because he certainly will just by doing his job. He knows he just needs to apply the law. He doesn't need to cooperate with anyone to do his job, he doesn't need to impress anyone. He's just a guy who is bent on putting his head down and doing his job, and his job happens to be taking down the biggest political criminal in our history.
He's fab.
Accuse me of celebrity worship over Jack Smith if you like. I'm guilty!

I feel like we are in good hands.
Not that it will all go like we secretly hope, but that he is fully capable of the job(s) he has been given.
Good sigh of relief.
January 6 will have a redeemer IMHO and his name is Jack Smith.

(7,401 posts)My husband was also not the type to take prisoners. He was generous and it took a ridiculous amount to get him to go at someone. When he did it was calculated. Complete. You were going down and there was no coming back. He had a presence and people know straight off. Only complete dumbshits pushed him that far.
Hillary Clinton and both Obama's give me the same feeling. You better be on your A game to even survive up against them.

(10,909 posts)It is simple. Well written.
I'll bet they lowered the reading level of the indictment to make it easier for the general public to grasp.
The details make it difficult to challenge or spin.
The evidence is fantastic; defying conspiracy theory with Trump's own words and deeds supported by his lawyer's notes, audio and video & photos, etc and a bunch of witnesses. You can't say the FBI planted Trump's audio with witnesses, etc.
The words "Espionage Act" are going to get many of those that don't get into the details.
37 counts covered by 8 statutes. With some/many of them, it seems incomprehensible how they can muster a defense.
Listening to Lawfare, I agree with them that we might see more indictments in DC and NJ on this.
We may yet see some related to foreign interests but there was no hint of that in the FL indictment.
Andrew Weissmann made one other point (paraphrased): "The Jan 6th indictments by Jack Smith will be similarly well written and similarly well supported with quality evidence and a variety witnesses." Andrew thinks the Jan 6th indictments will come before GA indictments.

There is nothing more sexy to me than a man with integrity, brains and a heart. He seems to have that in spades.
I worry for his safety very much.
His position I do not envy...for us and for the world.
He needs to stay away from windows, long staircases, have his food tested, and wear total body armor.
If we make it through all of this I want him to run for POTUS.

(26,257 posts)afraid of his own shadow as Lindsey Graham and others seem to be around tRUMP the Bullshiter (pardon my language).
Thank goodness that Jack's on the side of right, and justice, whereas the other republicans went rushing to tRUMP's defense etc.,
Why now ever believe the word of a republican now? After this (them running to tRUMP's tits), it really seriously made me doubt the republicans' words that they stand for Law and Order and Justice, and their words and things that they said in the past that seem to gloss over tRUMP's misdeeds etc.
Isn't there anyone else standing for justice too, besides us democrats and Jack Smith, that is, anyone on the republican side? It seriously throws the entire republican party into ill repute, whose motives I question now seriously from now, especially after this. I've always questioned them before, but now, I seriously will doubt the words of any republicans.
