Yeah, I'm getting on my soapbox again.
Some of the stuff STILL being done to our homeless citizens is still 🤬 me off.
As some know, many a city are still bussing homeless out, some are even bussing them out of the state. Doing this messes up all the paperwork they have done to try to get housing, SNAP, health-care, the works. And if they have been able to find someone to hire and work with them about their issue, that's gone to.
Basically they ether have to get on the bus or get charged with some charges that are on the books that basically there to make it illegal to be homeless.
If they have a record, they can't get considered for many programs that are supposed to help people. So the bus is the only option.
They get shipped out to start again at -0.
It's not a state problem anymore with homeless getting shipped out of state. It is now a federal problem.

(22,777 posts)I'd see comments under news articles by people calling the unemployed deadbeats and takers, even as the recession grew. Those people themselves were likely no farther away from being bankrupt and homeless if they were diagnosed with a serious medical condition.

(22,777 posts)At least in Washington state, they're still allowed to camp at night, hours depend on the city councils. But they still have to pack up their shit before start of business each day.
Really makes me wonder how assholish people were during the Great Depression. They were clueless during the Influenza of 1918, but some of the politicians were total assholes, Woodrow Wilson primary among them. I read the book, The Great Influenza by John Barry. It was shocking. Excellent book, tho.
I don't understand why people can't put themselves in the shoes of others and have some compassion. It's not getting any better, either.

(98,549 posts)Last I read you had a place to stay. I hope that is still true.
I hear what you are saying, we don't treat the homeless well at all.

(14,198 posts)But I still am doing things to try and help.
Going out, when I got the energy, to help groups to pass out water. I sadly don't have the strength to help in the food banks anymore. But am happy to donate when I can.
I do what I can to "pass it along " sort of speak. I got help when I needed it.
And if getting on my soapbox might help to bring attention to issues. Then get up there I will.

(17,029 posts)What you went through, sick and homeless, and unable to get the help you needed for so long. It's been awhile since you finally got everything sorted out and got your diagnosis, but I still want to cry every time I think about what you went through. And things have only gotten worse for the millions of unhoused citizens who are still maltreated and worse.

(14,198 posts)It can happen to anyone. Both financial and and health.
We can change many things to help people as well as to keep it from happening. But it will take federal, state and local governments to do it.
