it is alcohol. That drug has the ability to confuse people enough to make really bad decisions. Recently, A young man who played football at UGA was killed as a passenger in a racing accident after a celebration of their national championships.
Two days ago my sister in-law's sisters best friend was killed by a women who jumped the curb and hit her on the sidewalk. The women who was killed was also good friends of my brother and his wife.
This drug is easily the most destructive drug of them all. This is in response to how we demonize all the other drugs.

Using Tobacco products should be outlawed in public in any public forum. Much bigger health threat

(29,885 posts)I conduct a thought experiment where ethyl alcohol had never been discovered. Somebody synthesizes it and submits to FDA for approval. I think the doctors wouldnt find much in the way of medical use for it, as there are superior medications in every category of usage. Id put it in Schedule I.

Not outlawed but more education and maybe some more restrictive laws. I'd like to see ability to buy alcohol used as a deterrent. Any number of things like getting thrown out of a bar, domestic or other violence and you lose your alcohol privileges. Get the cops called because mommy didn't teach you to hold a glass like a big boy and you're done for a while. I know they could still get their shit, but they would have to beg someone to buy for them.

(4,602 posts)are needed. As with any intoxicant, moderation is the key. Prohibition doesn't work. Life is too crazy to stay straight all the time. Won't happen.
But I do agree. What other substance has people fist fighting, sobbing, throwing up, and falling down all at the same time? Drunks are gross. And, yes, I've been gross, too. DON'T DRIVE!!

(2,406 posts)Still dont want it outlawed.
Look, certain people, due to genetics, upbringing, cultural/religious mores shouldnt drink, but I still dont want the government making these decisions.
Bans do not work.
NutmegYankee
(16,484 posts)It didn't respect that ban a hundred years ago either. Culturally, we have a long history with this drug, and we use it to celebrate life events. And unlike many other drugs, it is super easy to make at home.

(46,228 posts)Pot is abused safely more often than not, which is why it's use is being decriminalized or even legalized (but, like alcohol, regulated) more and more.
On the other hand, there are other drugs that are rarely if ever used "safely", either to the other or to third parties.
