Yes

I know. Because they couldn't afford a team of $800.00 or more an hour attorneys and/or bail. The rules are the same for everyone. The question is, can you afford it? With enough $$$ any of us could do the same things Trump has done as far as appeals, delays etc. taking advantage of every single layer afforded to a defendant. The average cost to defend yourself for say murder, is upward of $500,000.00. How many people do you know that could fund that defense? Hell, a divorce can cost 50K, easy. So is there REALLY 2 systems of justice? I say no, the rules are the same for everyone. Where the issue lies is who can afford to fund their own since you HAVE to have at a bare minimum an attorney not to mention any other "experts" that might be needed. We have 1 system of justice. We have 2 systems of wealth. And THAT is the problem.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.

Tell me more...
