General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsTrump started his defensive whining tonight talking about the "Clinton socks" case.
Which has been brought up before, as LetMyPeopleVote has posted in past months:

https://www.democraticunderground.com/100217238483
But it was still surprising to see it emphasized so much tonight.
He is going after others as well, but he seems to think this case alone justifies what he did.
From one of LMPV's posts, an excerpt from Rachel Maddow's blog:
https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/team-trump-takes-interest-clinton-sock-drawer-case-rcna47363
A conservative group called Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit, demanding that Clinton be forced to turn over the recordings. In 2012, a federal court rejected the organizations claims, concluding that the tapes were personal records, not official presidential materials.......
But its not nearly that simple. NBC News report added, Unmentioned by Trumps defenders who began raising the issue of the sock drawer case last month is that Jacksons ruling explicitly states that the Presidential Records Act distinguishes presidential records from personal records, defined as documents that are purely private or nonpublic character.
In contrast, Trump took highly sensitive national security secrets to his glorified country club. To see the two as comparable is to overlook every relevant detail.
EDITING to mention my reply 4 below, since I found out only after I posted this OP that a Truth Social post from Trump referred to "THE CLINTON SOCKS CASE" this morning. If I'd seen that tweet from.a Daily Beast reporter, I wouldn't have been surprised by tonight's speech.

(16,415 posts)If I remember correctly is that republicans did investigate Socks the cat.
Kids would send him fan mail. Replies were sent signed by "Socks" So republicans had to find out who paid for the cat's replies.
This is why we can't have nice things.
