Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) will oppose Dale Ho’s confirmation as a judge on the Southern District of New York, narrowing the voting rights attorney’s path to the federal bench.

Manchin will vote against Ho’s confirmation when it comes up for a vote currently scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, a Manchin spokesperson told Bloomberg Law.

Manchin’s opposition means Ho’s confirmation vote, as well as a procedural vote beforehand, could be tight and require the rest of the Democratic caucus to get him across the finish line. If every Senate Republican voted with Manchin against Ho’s confirmation, Vice President Kamala Harris could break the 50-50 tie.

If he runs for reelection, of course.

Politico:

Republicans want Manchin to bow out, fearful that he may have one more trick up his sleeve
Democrats are on the verge of extinction in West Virginia, but the West Virginia senator hasn’t lost a race since the 1990s.

Republicans’ best option for unseating Sen. Joe Manchin: Pray that he retires first.

The longtime West Virginia Democrat might be the most endangered member of his party heading into 2024. But Republicans still see the contest against him as treacherous. Manchin is a West Virginia institution who has repeatedly defied the odds in a deep-red state. ...

There’s no sugar-coating the dire position in which Manchin finds himself. After Democrats dominated West Virginia for decades, the state has gone full-blown MAGA in recent years. Former President Donald Trump won it by nearly 40 percentage points in 2020, and there are only 14 Democrats left in West Virginia’s 134-member state legislature.

Some Republicans are praying Manchin runs for president, including those who've already spent millions to defeat him whatever he does.

He’s only doing these things for attention. Keep his egotistical self in the news. Be glad when he’s no longer a senator.

Manchin is only barely a Democrat but he counts as one for determining which party has the majority.

There will be several new Democratic senators voted in and that will make Manchin expendable. I don’t care if he’s barely a democrat he’s still a butthole and the sooner he’s out of there the better

ALL Dems need to be present!

..........Senate Democrats scuttled plans to confirm Ho last week after Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) was out due to a sinus infection. Her absence and Manchin’s opposition combined likely would have doomed Ho’s chances on the floor.

Manchin previously voted against Nancy Abudu’s confirmation to the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
