TPM: Trump Has Lots Of Ways To Delay His Trial Until The '24 Election

They include:

-The case has classified information at its center, setting up rigorous rules that parties need to follow to both protect state secrets and determine what can be disclosed for the case.

-Prosecutors will have to decide what classified information is too sensitive to be handed over, and what needs to go to Trump’s defense.

-The laws governing how classified information is handled at trial allow immediate appeals, potentially dragging out the case.

-U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon for the Southern District of Florida has limited experience trying criminal matters, and national security cases in particular. Given that she said in an opinion last year that Trump deserved special treatment as a former President, she may be hostile to the government’s case, which may also slow things down.

Lots of supporting points in the article.

Not a lawyer, but even though Jan. 6 is a more complicated case, the absence of classified information and a better venue would seem make it the more promising one from the POV of the calendar.

A conviction doesn't block him from the ballot, unless it's for insurrection.
And no fact, no matter how scary, will turn off his supporters.
The MarALago case will churn on in the background while other cases are prosecuted.
The part that scares me is, what happens when he's convicted of insurrection? Some states will immediately disqualify him from their ballots but what will the rogue red states do? Expect more bullshit false equivalancies and a total collapse of the electoral college.

All this talk of delays is because tRump has no case. Physical evidence HE provided nails him many times over. Statements HE personally provided nail him. All the big other witnesses are his own people, Republicans who are caught up in his (their) crimes.

Reportedly, the case and case law are relatively simple and uncomplicated. He'll try to insist all no-can-see documents be produced in court -- not because he didn't steal them and they aren't damning, he did and they are, just to attempt to use their protected status to delay the reckoning.

And above all, the crimes he's being charged with are horrific. I almost pity those who feel they have to defend him over the next year and after. Miserable place they've brought themselves to.
