What's weirdest is that one of my bosses looked just like that and this was years before the internet became widely available.

(21,679 posts)Mgmt is paranoid. I did wfh for years. Worked much more at home because I could work on Sunday morning if I felt the need. They're cutting off their nose to spite their face. Idiots. It's not for everyone, but for others like me it increased my efficiency.

(21,898 posts)I've been in IT 30+ years and until the last few months or so, I was always being encouraged to work from home. Now? They want everyone in the office. I've asked a few times, why the sudden change... But they don't actually have even a bad answer... It's like management does not even know why they want the change.

(298 posts)They know why, they just can't say why. They can't justify their jobs or keep them without the kind of politics that you can only do in a physical office.

(3,298 posts)My boss said he'd like to see me in the office so we can chat more. I said OK - as long as we're working together more frequently, otherwise, I don't need to be there. We agreed on one day a week.
That lasted a month.

(2,799 posts)In terms of how American corporate views productivity... In actuality, we are starting to line up more with European countries and I suspect many americans who work remote will enjoy greater quality of life...
Example: I'm seeing remote parents taking care of their young children, being in the presence of their children while also working. I don't think many could argue this is a far better option than sending your kid off to expensive daycare 40+ hours a week.
Unless everyone unifies against remote work, I don't think companies have much option other than to complain about it.

(3,104 posts)I only see them because they pop up when I open a new tab on Microsoft Edge at work. They always blare that they have "X scientific reasons why WFH is bad!". Then, when you actually read the article (I know, I know, clickbait) there are actually no facts, just CEOs giving anecdotal stories. Sometimes they even admit they have no proof, just a "gut feeling".
While I can't work from home (I test and troubleshoot electronics), I want as many people who can to do so. Less traffic on the road for my commute...

(12,115 posts)While those poor commuters are hunched over steering wheel, I spend that time exercising and getting fresh air.
Oh, and the money I save on gasoline allowed me to buy a very nice chair for my home office.
Face it, work from home is BETTER for your health.
