Good lord his brain has melted...

Good Lord his brain has melted and he’s going full Emperor Nero! The Bronzed Caligula! Trump says to commemorate 250th Anniversary of 1776 he will form a commission to organize an entire year of games and festivals. Bread and Circuses!

-------------------
History:

Nero:

The phrase fiddle while Rome burns can be traced to Ancient Rome. The story goes that a fire broke out in Rome under the reign of Nero and instead of taking action to stop the fire, Nero played his lyre and composed a song about the destruction.

Caligula:

While the reliability of these sources is questionable, it is known that during his brief reign, Caligula worked to increase the unconstrained personal power of the emperor, as opposed to countervailing powers within the principate. He directed much of his attention to ambitious construction projects and luxurious dwellings for himself, and he initiated the construction of two aqueducts in Rome: the Aqua Claudia and the Anio Novus. During his reign, the empire annexed the client kingdom of Mauretania as a province. In early 41, Caligula was assassinated as a result of a conspiracy by officers of the Praetorian Guard, senators, and courtiers.

.

For the younger folks. Coke was just months away hitting its centennial (100 year mark), and in a screwed up decision by Coca-Cola executives, they decided to replace the original formula with a sweeter, Pepsi-like, formula. "New" Coke was introduced and the original Coke went away. After the company realized it made a huge mistake, due to immense consumer blow-back, they brought the original formula back as Coke Classic. That "New" Coke formula was name changed, and later a switcheroo to change Coke Classic back to just Coke was made. The "New" Coke formula was later removed from production.

Trump will end this country's democratic experiment before its 250th anniversary.

Bottle now says, something like, original taste. Labels previously referred to original Coke.

Believed every crazy idea imaginable.

She said that the entire New Coke thing was an elaborate ad campaign to get people to buy Coke again. Something about them losing so much market share to Pepsi that they tried the switch in desperation to get people talking about their product, then switching back once so many people clamored for it. Said that their re-taking the top spot after switching back and never looking back "proved" that it had been the plan all along.

That was one time when I thought, you know... The corporate overlords might just be evil enough to do something that crazy in the name of making mo' money.

The U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission was established by Congress in 2016 to plan and orchestrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. Appointed by the House and Senate leadership of both parties, the nonpartisan Commission is composed of 16 private citizens, 4 U.S. Representatives and 4 Senators, as well as 12 ex-officio members from all three branches of the federal government and its independent agencies.

ABOUT AMERICA250

America250 is a nonpartisan initiative working to engage every American in commemorating the 250th anniversary of our country. This multi-year effort, from now through July 4, 2026, is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.

Maybe one of these times he will accidentally fulfill a promise, but the odds aren't good.

Like the "Bicentennial Minute"?

For the young ones who missed the fun last time:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicentennial_Minutes

Bicentennial Minutes was a series of short educational American television segments commemorating the bicentennial of the American Revolution. The segments were produced by the CBS Television Network and broadcast nightly from July 4, 1974, until December 31, 1976. (The series was originally slated to end on July 4, 1976, airing a total of 732 episodes, but was extended to the end of the year.) The segments were sponsored by Shell Oil Company, then later by Raid from July 1976 onward.

https://www.history.com/news/8-things-you-may-not-know-about-emperor-claudius

Claudius (full name Tiberius Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus) was the fourth Roman emperor from 41 to 54 A.D. Best know for the successful expansion of Rome into Britain and parts of Africa and the Middle East, Claudius was an accomplished leader who brought forth improvements to the empire's judicial system, passed laws protecting enslaved workers, extended Roman citizenship and gave citizens more rights.
