This is absolutely tyranny by the minority here. The vast majority of book challenges are coming from the same few people. I can't remember which county (SE), but one that went overwhelmingly for Trump has started pushing back on the GOP for book banning.

Their paranoia compels public purification displays like book-burnings to demonstrate supremacy. Seems quite insecure to me. Book-burnings are a sign of profound weakness.

The first step is banning books deemed "inappropriate." Relatively easy since many people don't read. But it does make the next steps a bit easier... banning speech deemed "inappropriate." Next comes banning thought deemed inappropriate.

If you think that could never happen here, just look at the Weimar Republic. The land of Goethe and Beethoven.

and they screech "for the children!" while they're trying to control what other grownups can read, say, and do.

History always sorts this out very nicely and affixes the proper labels to them. Unfortunately, that takes time. We need to fight them off right now.

about Jewish world domination that was a written to stir up anti-semitic sentiment. That's a book that I'd ban from school libraries.

But that is the hidden beauty of freedom of speech. IT EXPOSES ASSHOLES AND RIDICULOUSNESS. All book banning(or any censorship for that matter) is based on ignorance and fear. In a free society, we have to take the bad as well as the good. Otherwise, how do parents teach their children right from wrong?
