It's a very well-known and well-respected university and law school, not some fly-by-night outfit. Highly ranked and very prestigious.

The University of Chicago is a private research university and the dream school of many students around the globe. In fact, the University of Chicago ranking globally is #13 according to Times Higher Education.

*snip*

U.S. News Ranking – University of Chicago
According to U.S. News and World Report, the University of Chicago ranking is #6 among National Universities.

The school also ranks #12 in best value schools. Other University of Chicago rankings include #30 in most innovative schools and #32 in undergraduate research/creative projects.

I guess you could suggest that Eastman shouldn't have gotten a JD, and, thus, Chicago should be investigated.

But it seems more likely to me the poster was referring to Chapman, the law school where Eastman was dean.

I'm just suggesting that the poster who urged investigation of Eastman's law school was likely referring to Chapman, where Eastman was dean.

Not sure what difference it makes how many U.Chicago people are in government.

U.Chicago does, however, have a bit of a reputation for being on the rightish side of things, so there's that.

Constitutional scholar my ass. That's what he was billed as when he was the keynote speaker at our yearly constitution (fascist) week here my town. He spoke in 2020 and 2021.. after the attempted coup.

We've been complaining about town funding for this event for years and they finally pulled it in 2020, but the local VFW gave $5000. Several locals quit over that, but the hate is strong up here.

or we can play it rough. Easy means you resign and we all agree not to tangle each other up in any litigation on this topic. BUT rough means we call back the scores of well-educated, experienced, connected lawyers from both sides of the aisle who really want to see you squashed good, and we work with them to smother you under legal paper for years: we'll go after you for damaqing our reputation and ignoring your contractual obligations and whatever else our hellhounds dream up; so you'll wish at first you were just in a good old-time ear-biting eye-gouging goldrush-era saloon brawl, and you'll finally end up crying that there aren't supposed to be more than four horsemen in the apocalypse. It's your call, but seems like every day we're getting ten or fifteen new volunteer attorneys to burn your ass"

33. Eastman Charged with Multiple Counts by State Bar of California (jan 2023)
Sat Jun 17, 2023, 07:37 PM
Jun 2023

The State Bar of California’s Chief Trial Counsel George Cardona announced .. the filing of a Notice of Disciplinary Charges (NDC) against attorney John Charles Eastman (State Bar No. 193726). The 11 charges arise from allegations that Eastman engaged in a course of conduct to plan, promote, and assist then-President Trump in executing a strategy, unsupported by facts or law, to overturn the legitimate results of the 2020 presidential election by obstructing the count of electoral votes of certain states.

Specific charges allege that Eastman made false and misleading statements regarding purported election fraud, including statements on January 6, 2021, at a rally in Washington, D.C., that contributed to provoking a crowd to assault and breach the Capitol to intimidate then-Vice President Pence and prevent the electoral count from proceeding.

The Office of Chief Trial Counsel (OCTC) intends to seek Eastman’s disbarment before the State Bar Court.

In March 2022, Cardona invoked a public protection waiver to announce that an investigation of Eastman was underway. Eastman now faces multiple charges that he violated Business and Professions Code section 6106 by making false and misleading statements that constitute acts of “moral turpitude, dishonesty, and corruption” ...
