to foreign agents or entities? I think is a pretty damn important question that needs to be answered for the public and the country. Not just speculation, but a clear declaration from the DOJ if he did so and the punishment that goes with that.

(20,313 posts)I dont have any evidence of it, but I will call how pleased everybody was in that first meeting with Lavrov and for the first time, no American witnesses.

(37,006 posts)but it needs to be clearly made public and the proof of it is one of the most important things that needs to come from the investigation.

(15,647 posts)We are about to witness one such special trial, but even Smith knows some secrets are too sensitive to risk further disclosure.

(37,006 posts)there evidence that can be presented to the public. Not whether he did it, which he did.

(21,864 posts)But in any case, the IC will be able to speak to the damage done by compromising programs and sources by the insecure storage of the documents.
Hopefully that will be enough to convict Trump.

(45,963 posts)DOJ filed an inventory with the district court stating that 103 classified documents were found in the search of Mar-a-Lago of which 18 were top secret. In the indictment, they indicate that 102 classified documents were found in the search of Mar-a-Lago and 17 were top secret. The indictment bases separate charges on 11 of those 17 or 18 top secret documents. So there were only 6 or 7 of those top secret documents that weren't referenced in the indictment. Another 10 top secret documents that were given to DOJ in June, in response to the subpoena, are referenced in the indictment. We don't know the classification of the other 28 documents turned over in response to the subpoena, but even if all 28 were top secret, it would mean that DOJ obtained 56 or 55 top secret documents in response to the subpoena or in the search and didn't use 34 or 35 of them in the indictment. That's a majority, but not exactly a "vast"majority. And depending on how many of the 38 documents turned over in response to the subpoena actually were top secret, it could be that DOJ has in fact referenced a majority of the top secret documents in the indictment.
If there were other top secret documents seized or turned over to DOJ that were not acknowledged in the inventory or the indictment, DOJ would be in big trouble for providing false or misleading information to the court.

Trump needs to fry in isolated confinement for this.

(14,909 posts)(even a 'majority' of people believing) - is still not evidence that something in fact occurred.
Part of the reason that the recent indictments were such a gut punch to the establishment - was because they brought the goods.. NOW try arguing with me about whether this was nit picky 'overkill.' Point being - there's tremendous value in waiting - until the bastards are really nailed to the damned wall.

(78,497 posts)you could explain what exactly you mean by saying the indictments "were such a gut punch to the establishment." It could just be me, but I tend to think of the DOJ as part of the "establishment." Maybe even a majority of people here do. But as you note, we could be wrong in thinking that. But I consider the indictments to being the establishment as landing a "gut punch" to the toxic growth of the defendent and his maga cult -- much the same as I did the indictments, trials, and convictions of the January 6 thugs.

(14,909 posts)GOP in particular. But also have to think that there are a lot of military and regular civil servant types ( both current and ex) - that are feeling awfully sick to their stomachs at the revelations the indictments brought home. (and have to admit DOJ - not really part of that thought process at all)

(6,106 posts)we should wait until said hypothetical evidence is actually made known and brought to trial. Even Trump is innocent until proven guilty.

(37,006 posts)he is presumed innocent before the court. But he is guilty as all get out.

Mr. Hopper, if you ever wrongly charged and brought to trial for a serious crime, I sincerely hope folks who think like that are not on the jury.
