Asking the Mods

Regarding animal abuse can we not have it spelled out in the thread title? Recently “monkey torture” was in the title. Many of us don’t want to read about it. How about a warning in the title regarding the topic? Appreciate your work and thanks.

I asked for the subject matter to not be put in the title. A trigger that it is animal abuse could suffice.

trigger points that affect you? You can make it so if a word is in the title you don't see it too you know...trash the word. I wouldn't read it either but the title would suffice as a warning I think.

It’s so privileged. Reminds me of Barbara Bush’s comment about Iraq War casualties, why should she waste her beautiful mind by considering them? I mean, I know you’re coming from a different place than Babs, but the privilege inherent in asking everyone to consider your feelings before posting on a news site is similar. Personally, I feel monkey torture is awful but less awful than gunning down children in their classrooms but would you also ask the site’s leadership to ban those headlines? Of course not.

No one loves animals more than I do or more than the ppl who rescue these poor babies critters. I want to know so I can protest and help.

Any secret government agency that wants to know what my PTSD triggers are could start by stealing my "trash thread" list.

Fortunately my major PTSD triggers rarely come up for discussion here.

I've seen therapists and psychiatrists go silent and pale. The only reason I'm still here on earth is that I somehow managed to build a social safety net of family and friends. I lean on them hard sometimes.

It's not true there are no moderators here on DU. Moderation is what holds this place together, starting with the owners of this house, followed by MIRT, the jury system, and minor hosts like myself.

Without moderation any internet forum rapidly turns into an open sewer. I've been on the internet since the late 'seventies. I've seen it.

Is the subject matter disturbing? Of course.
Is it newsworthy? Yeah, I think so.
I read the article and it describes some pretty horrible behavior, but there are no graphic images, just descriptions.

12. Put a trigger warning in...I made posts about Dr. Oz's treatment of dogs and other animals.

I put a trigger warning in the title...I don't think though that we can really make this a mod thing because everyone has different opinions about certain subjects. One can be a decent person and put a trigger warning for animal abuse child abuse rape vicious murders ETC in the title.

misunderstanding what you're asking. I think asking for "CW: Animal abuse" instead of the specific example of abuse in the subject title is not an unreasonable request or expectation.
