If the sub exploded or imploded, at least they went quick. The thought of sitting in a minivan watching 4 other people slowly suffocate, knowing there was little chance of rescue, is horrifying.

2 hours into the descent, so...

Whatever investigation might additionally discover, they already understood this was high-risk travel as presented and chose that with their eyes open. At least the four adults did. RIP to all.

Everything I have seen says they are "examining" the debris. It is only third parties saying it is parts of the missing submersible.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/06/22/us/submersible-titanic-oceangate-search-thursday/index.html

Debris discovered near the Titanic on Thursday has been assessed to be from the external body of the submersible that went missing with five people on board days earlier, according to a memo reviewed by CNN.

The search for the crew capsule of the vessel continues, the memo says. The debris was located on the ocean floor, roughly 500 meters off of the bow of the Titanic, at about 8:55 a.m. ET.

The US Coast Guard said Thursday a “debris field” was discovered by a remotely operated vehicle near the Titanic and within the search area for the missing submersible.

“Experts within the unified command are evaluating the information,” the Coast Guard said. The Coast Guard said it plans to host a press briefing at 3 p.m. ET to “discuss findings from the Horizon Arctic’s ROV on the sea floor near the Titanic.”

gave way.

Evidence in a lawsuit said it was only rated for 1300 meters, and the Titanic is around 4000 meters down.
