Fighter planes over my house

Two F-18s just zoomed over my house her in North Austin

Low altitude

Im fully aware that Austin Berstom airport still keeps air national guard stationed there.

But this was completely out of the blue

On occasion we'll see the VT Air National Guard zooming around in their new F-35's, racking up flight hours. Years ago, in South Carolina, while we were driving down I-20, 2 F-15's came over the highway so low I could make out one pilot's helmet.

I worked for a bit doing environmental surveys in northern Nevada. Usually, most of that area is sparsely populated and very quiet. I could stand on top of a hill and not see anything man made from horizon to horizon. On occasion I would see a Navy F 14 Tomcat probably from the Naval Air Station at Fallon. At times the first thing seen was a shadow then I could see it, wings back and sleek, the way it was designed to be configured for flight at full chat and low altitude. Then I could hear it. Impressive. Very different from the way most civilians would see them when they are on final with wings spread and on the glide path (such as it is) when approaching Miramar.

NAS Whidbey Island is north of here by just a few miles and the Growlers have been out, doing training flights the past few days. They have been coming low and fast.
