The Supreme Court left in place a decision that allows more than 230 men to sue Ohio State University over decades-old sexual abuse by a university doctor, the late Richard Strauss.
WASHINGTON (AP) The Supreme Court on Monday left in place a decision that allows more than 230 men to sue Ohio State University over decades-old sexual abuse by a university doctor, the late Richard Strauss.
Two cases involving the abuse were on a list of many cases the court said it would not hear. And, as is typical, the court did not comment in saying it would not hear the cases.
Ohio State University had urged the court to review a ruling by the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that revived lawsuits that had been dismissed. The men who sued are among hundreds of former student-athletes and other alumni who say they were abused by Strauss, who worked at the school from 1978 to 1998.
They say university officials failed to stop him despite complaints raised as early as the late 1970s. Many of them allege Strauss abused them during required physicals and other medical exams at campus athletic facilities, a student health center, his home and an off-campus clinic.

Jim Jordan brings dishonor on UW. I mistook him for a Buckeye, and he sure dishonors them, too.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Jordan_(American_politician)Jordan was born and raised in Champaign County, Ohio, the son of Shirley and John Jordan. He attended and wrestled for Graham High School, graduating in 1982. He won state championships all four years he was in high school and compiled a 1561 winloss record. He then enrolled at the University of WisconsinMadison, where he became a two-time NCAA Division I wrestling champion. Jordan won the 1985 and 1986 NCAA championship matches in the 134-pound (61 kg) weight class. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics in 1986.
Jordan earned a master's degree in education from Ohio State University and a Juris Doctor from the Capital University Law School. In a 2018 interview, Jordan said he never took the bar examination.
Jordan was an assistant wrestling coach with Ohio State University's wrestling program from 1987 to 1995.
Richard Strauss was wrestling team physician during Jordan's tenure. In April 2018 Ohio State University began an independent investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct by Strauss. Strauss died by suicide in 2005. Several involved persons have stated that Jordan surely knew of Strauss's criminal misconduct but did not report it. No wrestlers have accused Jordan himself of sexual misconduct, and he was never arrested or indicted for his alleged failure to report, but four former wrestlers named him as a defendant in a lawsuit against the university. Jordan has denied any wrongdoing, has refused to cooperate with investigations into Strauss, and has described his accusers as "pawns in a political plot."

But it has consistently been ranked at the top of the list of party schools forever for a reason. The stuff that goes on there is absolutely horrendous.

More than 100 former Ohio State students say they were sexually assaulted by a former university athletic doctor, the university announced Friday about an ongoing investigation.
The scandal gained national attention earlier this month, after more than five former wrestlers claimed Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) ignored the sexual abuse of athletes and students by a former team doctor during his tenure as the assistant coach of Ohio States wrestling team from 1986 to 1994. Jordan, who spoke with investigators this week, has continued to deny knowing anything about the abuse.
Turning your back on crime has its downside.

I believe he was named (as co-defendent?) in a suit brought against OSU and physician. (the one reviewed and revived here) Don't believe there were legal charges leveled.

(15,420 posts)Jordan has been accused (in the past) of 'knowing and not reporting.' And that is a serious allegation (and an absolute moral/ethical failure). However, that does not support your assertion that (legal) charges have been laid against him as an individual.
(and that was all that was implied in my post)

GOP Rep Jim Jordan sued for failing to prevent sexual abuse at Ohio State
Jul 18, 2018
Embattled Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) has been named as a defendant in a class action lawsuit filed by former Ohio State athletes who say they were sexually abused by the school's sports doctor, Richard Strauss. over a twenty-year period.
Jordan was assistant wrestling coach at OSU for eight of those years, overlapping with Strauss' tenure for all of that time. Eleven of Jordan's former wrestlers say that they can't imagine how Jordan didn't know about the serial sexual abuse of his wrestlers, who spoke about it openly; and two of Jordan's former students claim they told Jordan about the abuse, and he did nothing. Jordan continues to claim he was unaware.
and then from Rolling Stone: -
Jordan, the jut-jawed anti-gay crusader whos the fourth-ranking Republican leader in the House, is singled out in the suit: Hes one of only three former school officials named, including Strauss, though the action is aimed at all the coaches, administrators and others in positions of responsibility at OSU who, it claims, stood by while students and student-athletes were repeatedly sexually abused, harassed, and molested, and forced to seek treatment from a well-known predator even after they complained.

(43,303 posts)don't really know that Jordan is named in court documents; the tweeter says he is but gives no court document to confirm it.
This link names Jordan, but it doesn't provide a link to court documents that name him.

Allegation: Several ex-wrestlers say he knew about Strauss' abuse when he was an assistant coach at Ohio State, as well as the lewd behavior in Larkins Hall.
Response: Jordan has repeatedly denied knowing of any abuse and said he would have reported it if he'd heard of it. "Conversations in a locker room are a lot different than people coming up and talking about abuse," Jordan told Fox News on July 6.
I've looked for the court documents that name university officials but can't find them, only reports on the suit, like the one linked here.

(36,896 posts)In a statement, lawyers for the plaintiffs said they were pleased the Supreme Court decided not to hear the cases. We look forward to returning to the trial court, having our clients stories heard, and gathering further evidence of OSUs widespread cover-up of Dr. Strausss serial predation, they said.
(bold is mine; last paragraph from link in op)
They'll be gathering further evidence of the coverup, and maybe later we'll find out whether he's named with those who they subpoena and depose.
I'd love to have his name confirmed, but it's just too soon to know, nevermind celebrate as if he's really part of the suit. Everyone loves to hope it's true, but that doesn't make the tweet true. It doesn't even mean that we can know he's feeling any pressure over this case. Just sayin'.

(28,348 posts)Pricks like him are, and were, in every athletic department ever created. I played three varsity sports for five of the six years I was in school and these were the guys who made your life miserable. They would walk around after their showers snapping towels at peoples bare asses and make fun of their dick sizes, like they had anything to brag about, and torturing people even on the team. Real human beings who were good athletes were appreciative of everybodys contribution to the team.
And homophobic they were universally, but would be naked and horsing around with their buddies long after everyone else was dressed. Wotta bunch of slimy pricks.

(4,099 posts)I'm honestly amazed in our current time line when anything other than Y'all Qaeda's Nat-C Fascist is further advanced!
Things will always be as they are and rarely as one might have it to be.
In this case, I did not expect Nat-C SCOTUS to allow this to go forward.
I'm really pleased that the opportunity now exists.
This is progress. Nothing is "fixed".
This is merely an opportunity for these individuals to seek judicial redress.
I can't say that if I had been abused as they, that I would not have sought extrajudicial remedies.
Having further standing before the law has long been needed.
This is that!!
Here's to you have a great day deelee!!
