A man turned a lunch trip into a religious protest after he spotted imagery in the restaurant that did not align with his beliefs. He then demanded a refund on his food order for all of his troubles, but many people disagree with his proclamations.
A video posted to the subreddit, "r/PublicFreakouts" depicts a male customer in a Chinese restaurant picking up a food order. However, after he allegedly spotted a statue of Buddha, an Asian spiritual master associated with the Buddhism religion, he demanded a refund since Buddhist beliefs go against his beliefs as a Christian.
The incident took place in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Rose Garden Chinese restaurant.
In the video, the man and a little boy who is presumed to be his son stand off to the side of the counter and he can be heard arguing with other customers and restaurant staff after asking for a refund.

(3,192 posts)that there has been speculation on whether Jesus visited India during his "lost years" before he began preaching in Israel.
Buddha preceded Christ by several centuries and Christ, had he traveled to India, would have had ample occasions to explore Buddhism and Buddhist teachings.
But how far the words of Jesus faded have into the background, crowded out by bigotry and smug, narrow minded intolerance is exemplified by the dolt in this chinese restaurant.

(4,741 posts)300 years before the demigod was born, the troops of Alexander the Great returning from India after his death brought knowledge of Buddhism with them. Some of them had become converts themselves, and, though small in number, they were quite well-known. Some of the Greco-Bactrian rulers who had been affiliated with became Buddhist as well under the conversion campaign of Ashoka. The Bactrian area constitutes parts of modern India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan. Many of these kingdoms were quite prosperous, and thus influential far beyond their borders.
Silk Road trade with the Greco-Bactrians (and beyond) that started not long after Alexander's foray familiarized Middle Easterners and Europeans with the religion as well.
So it would have been impossible not to know about Buddhism in that day and age, given the importance and influence of countries that practiced it.

(156 posts)The Father he mentions, Joseph the cuckolded carpenter, and the "Holy Spirit" that knocked up Mary.
I've heard some good ones, but this is the most original one so far. It amazes me the lengths some people will go to get something for nothing and they are often people who can absolutely afford to pay. They just like the sport of it, unfortunately at other people's expense. Of course if someone was ripping THEM off, they would scream the loudest.
The restaurant business is a rough one. So much hard work goes into making a profit, then clowns like this guy come along feeling entitled to get something for nothing. When the restaurant has to raise prices because of scam artists, guess who will be the first to complain (often loudly to an unfortunate hourly employee).

(53,214 posts)customers were frequently the worst tippers. My friends and I used to say that all people should have to work for two weeks waiting tables before being allowed to eat in a restaurant. Those who have never actually had to serve people are often entitled, cheap, and demanding.
That said, the absolutely best tippers and most gracious customers were truck drivers and of course, fellow servers and/or bartenders. I'm sure there were others, but those are the ones that come to mind.
I taught my children young, if you don't have enough money for a tip, go to MacDonalds.
By the way, I still have anxiety dreams about working in a restaurant and it has been decades.
OldBaldy1701E
(11,142 posts)I swore that I would never work in food service or customer service ever again. I swore I would starve in the streets before I would do it again.
So, I am starving in the streets. But, I don't have to listen to sad excuses for humans acting like that are important for some idiotic reason. Like I told the last person who tried to shift me into customer service. Unless you want the truth spoken at the counter, I suggest you not consider this. Since they never want the truth spoken to a customer, you might guess what their decision was. (Yes, it was to 'let me go' since I was not doing what they wanted, i.e.: doing jobs I was not hired for while being refused any pay or perk increases because of it. You won't pay me? I am not doing it. Period.)
PatSeg
(53,214 posts)that I also swore I'd never work in food service again, though I did still work in retail for many years. If nothing else being a waitress made me a very understanding customer and an excellent tipper.
When dealing with the public, I found that they are the most demanding and rude when it comes to their food. "I ordered my eggs over-light and these eggs are over-easy." What the hell? You can imagine the look on the cook's face when I brought them back. It was a good thing that they didn't have to deal directly with the customer. Eggs were always the most difficult, as people are more particular about that food than most others. Geez people, just eat at home.
Some people really are very picky, but for so many, it is really about power. They love the opportunity to look down on other people. I was annoyed the most by customers who picked on my teenage employees, often talking to them in a way they'd never talk to an adult.
Overall, I will say it was a learning experience, but I'm not sure I wanted to know that much about human nature. It could be very depressing.

(29,404 posts)What an idiot! And what a lame approach.
Related story - When our older son took driver's ed many years ago, we used a private service rather than waste time in his high school schedule. I walked into the place, and was rather taken aback to see a very large black and white poster of Jesus with the crown of thorns, prominently displayed on the wall behind the counter. The business cards had a cross on them, and the little dish that held them had a crucifix projecting from the far edge of the rim. There was one other in-your-face display but I can't now remember what is was. Their belief system was most apparent.
I felt compelled to ask the proprietors if students of all faiths were welcome at their school. (I did not share that we are agnostics.) They assured me that everyone was welcome. We did go ahead and use them, and my son told me there was never any praying before going on the road, or proselytizing of any kind, in which case we would have gone elsewhere, but without pitching a public fit about it.
It was a very odd experience.

(22 posts)....beyond my time as a scholar. But when I wuz, I conceived the notion, several have already mentioned above, that Jesus might have toured India a while before Rudyard Kipling and the Beatles. Lots of others before and smarter than me have realized the same possibility.
Hinduism predates Christianity by several thousand years and had a Trinity, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, long before Christianity came up with the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Buddhism was also started there 500 years BCE, mas o menos, by a prince named Siddhartha Gautama who never claimed to be a god. He was made one by later converts to his teachings, and one Buddha not being enough for them they went on to invent other Buddhas, manifestations of him, to the point that Gautama is now known as the "historical" Buddha.
Gautama got let out of his palace at some point and found out that everybody didn't have his personal buttwiper and that some people were (gasp) poor. He famously went off and meditated about it under a tree and came up with lots of stuff similar to what Christ taught.
I've got no quarrel with Buddha's teachings or those of Jesus, but those lately who profess to be Christians display amazing ignorance of his teachings.
