(100,133 posts)So although I personally do not eat game, it did cross my mind that this rabbit would make a lot of stew.

(10,877 posts)Cook it.
Sprinkle a little salt on it.
Dip it in some BBQ sauce.
Taste just like chicken.

(20,914 posts)Do you not have hares in the US? I was surprised that most thought it was a rabbit.
I've seen smaller kangaroos.

(21,377 posts)There are snowshoe hares in the north, Alaska, Canada, the far northeast and the upper Rockies.
Whitetail and Blacktail "jackrabbits" (hares) are fairly common throughout Western habitats.
Not sure if there are hare species in the southeast.

(22,796 posts)I don't know of any hare species that are native to the southeast or the midwest. Theres a species of small rabbits, the eastern cottontail, that is very common throughout the eastern and central U.S., but we aren't used to seeing large hares like this one.

(3,828 posts)The snowshoe hare is actually a type of rabbit.
TygrBright
(21,377 posts)Snowshoe hare offspring are born fully furred, with their eyes open, as is characteristic of hare species.
Snowshoe hare is a member of the genus lepus, to which all hare species belong.
As with other hare species, snowshoe hares are mostly solitary except when breeding, rabbit species tend to be social.
Snowshoe hares are hares.
