Autonomous Confusion: Burger King Roadside Signs Make Teslas Stop

https://www.motorbiscuit.com/autonomous-confusion-burger-king-roadside-signs-make-teslas-stop/

If your Tesla is stopping at every freeway exit where a Burger King is located, it’s not wondering “Where’s the beef?” It can’t, because it’s an inanimate, well, you know why. It’s because Burger King roadside signs are causing Teslas to stop. The confusion is because the autonomous sign recognition system is matching the details of the Burger King logo to certain criteria downloaded into its ECU. It sees the Burger King logo as a Stop sign. So, maybe these autonomous “smart systems” aren’t so smart after all?

But the burghers at Burger King are not letting this Tesla glitch go without some promotional gravitas. A Tesla owner uploaded to YouTube the autonomous confusion phenomenon as it was happening. Don’t be distracted by the sawed-off steering wheel that looks like it came out of the Batmobile. We don’t know either.

A recent claim that a Tesla "ran" a Stop sign at 35mph proved to be a complete lie.

Such a problem as a Burger King sign could be easily resolved only by Tesla over the air in minutes.

No other software comes close.

Millions of lives will be saved

Hack into the Tesla's self-driving software, program it to turn into one of my many Axolotl-on-a-Stick (tm) drive-ins, park, and refuse to start again until the driver returns with a Sack-O'-Axolotls (tm) and a large diet coke. I'll make millions -- no, billions of dollars!

Beware anything that runs on software.

That would be damn near everything. (gets out programming cheat sheet .... )
