Why do we have a separation of church and state?

So the state can accommodate most Churchs and their pettiness? I suggest if a church or churchs want to codify religious beliefs into public law (no separation there) they should be happy to ante up. Let’s do away with, or at least get the conversation started, the one way separation nonsense. It should at least get the guys who abide (Unitarians?) to at least pressure the others. Turn loose the assessors and we will see who values what. Give Pope Francis the property tax bill on his American Churchs. Gosh

May ease the current nonsense coming from the fraudulent 6 (I’ll hold my expletive deleted). Can’t discriminate against whites but can against gays in the land of the free. I’m so in mourning for the trillions of whites who couldn’t go to college because they were discriminated against. Free at last, thank god almighty whitey is free at last.

Caveat, I’m an old white guy who doesn’t go to church but I am more a religious freedom advocate then any jackass contemplating a trip to the current Supreme Court, majority opinions probably already written.

at the end of the 18th century. It was achieved as a result of ideas arising from opposition to the English episcopal system and the English throne as well as from the ideals of the Enlightenment.

for the founding fathers. They knew very well what could and usually did happen when a church becomes an arm of the state, or vice-versa.

So many countries in Europe (all over really) had formal state religions. And we ended up with bunches of religions/denominations that wanted a government that allowed them to worship freely… but not dictate a specific faith (or any at all).

Otherwise, religions could use schools, the government, etc. to either persecute nonbelievers or compel conversion or to have their beliefs transformed into laws, regulations where you'd have penalties for heresy, blasphemy.

Without the separation of church and state, it could lead to religious wars.

Ideally, the imposition of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment is supposed to represent neutrality of religion when it involves government or an agency controlled by government.

With the IRS on their ass? As we speak, republicans are doing whatever they can to neuter the IRS. DESANTIS SAYS HE WILL ABOLISH IT. WHY?

I SHOULD HAVE ASKED, WHY DO WE HAVE THE SUPPOSED SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE NOW SINCE SOME CHURCHS COULD NOT POSSIBLY GIVE A FUCK ABOUT IT.

They have their anti freedom Allies, republicans to run interference for them.

The Supreme Court was a total embarrassment this week and they will be lauded in Churchs from coast to coast this Sunday in “the land of the free.” Their garbage ruling will be part of 4th of July celebrations.

Thank You for the historical context.

The job of the church is to teach their brand of religion.
