(8,710 posts)Are a protected class, you can absolutely refuse to serve them.
MichMan
(17,105 posts)Does not have to be individually
A business for example, can refuse to serve people with things like shaved heads, cargo shorts, flip flop shoes, black cars, lip piercing, poodles, and a million other characteristics

(18,820 posts)Not to a class of people.

(4,002 posts)All these things are choices. Sexual orientation isn't any more of a choice than race is. I know in the 70s growing up Catholic and realizing in Jr High that I was attracted to Brandon instead of Bonnie was scary. I'd have changed in a minute if I could've.
Discrimination for Who people are is the problem. Being gay isn't a choice.

(17,105 posts)Me and many others have correctly said that they were always free to do so, regardless of this decision.
So the entire premise of the OP is categorically not true. In an attempt to be clever, they showed their lack of knowledge.

(9,345 posts)if those who want to discrimiate against people on the basis of natural differences, no one who might decide to adopt the OP policy would have botheres.

(5,517 posts)I don't think that op was saying that the ruling makes not serving Trump supporters legally permissible. I think that the op was saying that not serving Trump supporters, which was always permissible, is now morally imperative.

(17,105 posts)I've just seen several posts all stating "Now that the SC riuled on the wedding website, we are now allowed to do this" when whatever they suggest doing could have been done regardless. Thought this was in that same frame of mind

(4,552 posts)Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII) prohibits federal agencies from discriminating against employees or applicants for employment because of their religious beliefs in hiring, firing and other terms and conditions of employment. Additionally, Title VII requires federal agencies to reasonably accommodate the religious beliefs or practices of employees or applicants unless doing so would impose an undue hardship upon the agency.
It used to be race color or creed.
I think you can say no service to repukes they are not a protected class.

(3,551 posts)Political beliefs do not constitute a protected class under the Civil Rights Act itself or, any interpretation or court ruling thereof.

A protected class should be defined as any group that is the way they are as part of nature. Because discriminating against them is discriminating against people for who they are, not actions (eg: choices made)

(9,345 posts)Those claiming the authrity of their religion in order to discriminate on natural grounds will scream that their religion is being discrimiated against But since their religion is hateful....

(25,900 posts)that support LBGTQ+.
And there are people who discriminate against LBGTQ+ people on the basis of religious belief.
So now it looks like they don't do business with each other. Freedom of expression and of religion.
Or some can just refuse to do business with MAGAs and anti LBGTQ+ on the basis of not wanting to. Freedom of expression.
How far can this go? Will Christian grocery businesses refuse to carry bagels or kosher hot dogs? Will Jewish restaurants refuse to hire or serve Christians, Muslims, etc.? Will non Christians refuse to shop at stores that play Christmas music in December?
Christian grocery stores can refuse to carry bagels and kosher hot dogs.
No business can refuse to serve someone based purely on their religion.
Non Christians can already refuse to shop in stores that play Christmas music in December.

(25,900 posts)My point is that, with the most recent legalization of discrimination, there is more awareness of divisions, and expressions of them can become more popular.

(32,354 posts)...but I am sick to death of all the years we've been fighting the fascist overtake of our nation with wimpy, candy-assed, overwhelmingly ineffective responses. This past week's actions by the Supreme Court bring into sharp focus the fact that we are about to lose our country forever. If we have to add to the "coarsening" of America in order to save it, then let's do it, without apology...

its about time they get a taste of their own medicine.
Enough with the supine negotiations and kid gloves.
The gop sat silent and allowed over 1 million + Americans to die while their leader lied every afternoon from a podium. How there is still a gop party I do not understand. It should have been tried by garland under a RICO charge and dissolved.
But that would upset people and Dems seem to go way out of their way to accomplish not doing this instead of taking out the garbage.

(5,517 posts)A divided people are more easily controlled by oiligarchs than a people united against the oiligarchs. Religion, the law, whatever, are merely tools for the reich-wing justices. They care nothing for their tools other than how they can use them to increase the power of the oiligarchs whom they serve.
