(23,200 posts)a few years ago setting of fireworks. Not a child or a teen, not goofing around - but obviously fireworks are very dangerous.
So every year they publish his story before the fourth of July as a warning.

(77,271 posts)Commercial grade fireworks are a Class 1.3 explosive.
The "3" means only that there is low risk of MASS explosion damage.
We don't need mass explosion capability if we're standing right next to it. Or holding it. Or putting our face in front of it.

(25,126 posts)A couple of years ago in upstate New York, a man was preparing a fireworks display for the party he and his wife were having to announce the gender for their expected child. The day before the party, the man and his brother decided to test their creation.
It blew up killing the man and severely injuring the brother. Not worthy of a Darwin Award as his wife was already pregnant. I never found out if it was a boy or a girl.
What a stupid thing to do.
Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
