I hope they are just on vacation or something.
Two I can think of immediately are Sheltielover and KS Toronado. Anybody know anything about them or are there others who haven't been on for a time and seem to have disappeared?

(103,806 posts)I also miss the TOONS contributions. With all the comedians/writers on strike we don't have much levity in our daily lives.
I'm beginning to wonder if there will be fresh comedy going forward.

(51,308 posts)I dm with several DUers, and though I'd never post a GBCW, I'd probably let them know I was leaving.

(82,306 posts)We often chatted back and forth on the site.
Yes I agree, perhaps long time posters should post a good by or
that they were taking a break, etc.
Then at least we would know what happened.

People they know might try to contact them. There are so many people here that some folks could just fade away and it not be known.

(8,907 posts)Maybe DUers could get an option of adding a well being check email that could kick in with a six month hiatus. An email a spouse or close friend would receive but it would be auto-generated. Something the member could toggle on or off.
BlackSkimmer
(51,308 posts)Lol, I wouldn't want DU contacting my family members.
Imagine being contacted by a website..."hello, so-and-so has not posted on our site for six months, please respond".
People come and go from here all the time.

Maybe an automated reply message to DMs sort of like the out-of-office ones.

(7,053 posts)The negativity from one or another direction can often get so consistent and tiresome that leaving can the most rational, most effective, and (most importantly) most cleansing course of action to our own personal well-being.
Thanks for the info!

(10,756 posts)I was on MIRT when it happened, in MIRT. I figured there had to be some DM's exchanged because what was "public" (in MIRT) didn't seem that caustic to me. I have not gained any understanding of it.

(60,429 posts)He was around to see the video I made with his lyrics, but not much longer after that.
I hope nothing evil has befallen him.
Or maybe he had a serious falling out with someone? I would have thought not, as I found him quite even-tempered. In 2016, when DU was temporarily dominated by a certain faction with whom I had serious differences, and certain actions were taken against me, I just took a six month leave of absence. I found them extremely unpleasant, and DU was fine with it. So I left. No fanfare, just stopped posting. After all, this ain't my board. I'm just a guest here like everyone else. Eventually, somebody must have gotten tired of somebody, because they left. So, I came back. Didn't hurt a bit.

(51,308 posts)People always seem to think the worst here.
I remember a few years ago when Rachel Maddow went on a holiday, there are numerous panicky posts about her wellness or lack thereof, a possible beef with the network, various conspiracy theories...it was pretty funny.
Never a fan of Atticus, but I did notice he was gone.

(60,429 posts)He is a retired physician in his mid-seventies. If he lived alone and had a medical issue, it's conceivable we'd never know. I hope not. That set of lyrics he wrote was pretty popular when we recorded it, got a couple of dozen thousand views so far.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
