Dont call RFK Jr. a political maverick or vaccine skeptic. As Mehdi notes, his anti-vaccine effort has real-life consequences. For proof, just look at the 2019 measles outbreak in Samoa, where dozens of children died thanks to a steep drop in vaccinations. Mehdis deep dive looks at the deadly cost of the anti-vaccine movement Kennedy has boosted.

What made him such a rotten person? May be it was the (needle-acquired) Hepatitis C.
Too bad, too. He showed a mountain of promise.

Can't fault that Drumpf for not wanting to be cannon fodder for the Kaiser.

(22,590 posts)I had a very mild case of the measles when I was 7 years old. Almost exactly 7 years later, I had rubella, the "r" that is now prevented by the mmr (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine. I was one of millions, as there was a major rubella epidemic that year (1964). Rubella tends to be a very mild illness, but it can cause a myriad of birth defects, resulting in many lost pregnancies and many babies being born with major disabilities. That's another thing we'd have to look forward to if RFK Jr ever got his way.
I've never had mumps, and if the antivaxxers don't get completely out of control, I probably never will. I worry about it a little, though, every time I read an article about people refusing to vaccinate their kids, and wonder if I should get the mmr just in case.
I really wish the earth would open up and swallow RFK Jr before he causes any more deaths.

(100,133 posts)Because if there is not, there will be, because of the doctrine that all vaccines are bad. And it will happen here on the Mainland as well.
I have heard and read the rankest garbage from an anti-vaxxer close to me, a woman of intelligence (yes, very bright) who does her research on FB and refuses to vaccinate her own children because herd immunity
. I told her that old graveyards were full of children under 5 who died before vaccines existed.

Turned out it was on YouTube already, and marble falls found it there and posted the link.
