Jill Stein was responsible for electing TFG in 2016. Now, the bid by Cornel West is designed to help re-elect TFG

In 2016, the Green Party played an outsized role in tipping the election to Donald Trump. Now, with Cornel West as their likely nominee, they could easily do it again. Risky business, he tweeted.....
Axelrod compared West to 2016 Green Party candidate Jill Stein, who some blamed for splitting the vote for Hillary Clinton in key electoral states, potentially causing Clintons electoral loss to former President Trump.
Stein won more votes than Trumps margin of victory in Wisconsin and Michigan, states which would have tipped the outcome of the election if Clinton had won them.

(7,110 posts)correct.
I like Dr. West in general. But his running can only cause problems for Biden to be re-elected, with no shot of being elected president himself.

He must be angry at something Joe did or didn't do.

(7,110 posts)is often angry, usual at the system/status quo. He has held prestigious positions at Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Union of Theology, Paris University, among others. But he always left when he tried to buck the system. He is still in demand, and he has left, and returned to some of these universities more than once.
But he supported Jill stein in 2016, after Bernie dropped out of the race, rather than backing Biden. He also called Obama Obama a "Rockefeller Republican in blackface."
He speaks from his heart. But he is completely wrong in running a third party campaign that has zero shot at winning.

(71,542 posts)Hillary loss in 2016...he is a political nothing. I despise him and as for him being smart. Intelligent people don't support Republicans. He defended DeSantis's racist, homophobic education policy on the WSJ with a co-author who is conservative and West promoted it and DeSantis on a right-wing hate site. Cornell West is dead to me.
'Ostensibly leftist academic Cornel West launched his third-party presidential campaign the way any true progressive would by promoting it on a podcast known to spread right-wing extremist conspiracy theories, hosted on a video platform popular among right-wing extremists, just weeks after having praised Floridas right-wing extremist governor, Ron DeSantis.
In his praise for the Florida Republican in a Wall Street Journal op-ed headlined DeSantiss Revolutionary Defense of the Classics West and a conservative co-author endorsed the governors support for Florida high schoolers being able to qualify for scholarships by using scores from the Classic Learning Test.'
If you can get on WSJ, you can read the original article or perhaps you have archive information. I don't.

(1,852 posts)West is not going to have a serious draw. Sure, it COULD happen. Lots of things COULD, and likely will happen before the election. Cornel West becoming the 2024 Jill Stein is pretty unlikely, and that's being generous.

to bring about the desired result for the GOP. The Greens take money from the GOP and from Russia. The Greens take votes from Democrats.
Both Al Gore and Hillary Clinton won the popular vote. They very narrowly lost in a small number of crucial areas which threw those states votes to the GOP in the Electoral College.
I do not expect to see Cornell West campaigning much in California, except maybe a few appearances at colleges. I do expect he will spend time in places Hillary lost to Jill Stein by very small numbers in each district.
They are good at this. I actually do worry about it.

(1,852 posts)But the Greens nihilistically tipping the election to the GOP is not something to be overly concerned about IMO, and neither is Cornel. And are they really good at it? I guess they've infected at least 2 elections, so maybe, but I remain unconvinced. If they really are as good as you say, I assume the people running Biden's campaign are going to be on top of it and will have a strategy to deal with it if they are an actual credible threat.

(58,785 posts)be out there. And those who admire influencers and politicians without fact checking and dumping those who depend on deceit want to be lied to. West's in the same genre as Rush Limbaught, just different style and targets.
Only wish we could prosecute those whose systematic deceits (NOT their ideologies) constitute a danger to society. And we've come to the point that I believe we need to be able to set legal limits on mass deception.

(3,379 posts)but if Trump ends up running in 2024, I don't think people will be so eager to split the vote for anyone now that he's not a joke candidate (having been a joke president) but a horrible fate.
EDIT: Sorry, this was a general comment, not in response to Feline.

what to have for dinner? Oh, forgot to call my mother back.
Who can listen to Cornel's nutty ramblings without one's mind wandering.
Isn't he still a Fellow of an Institute where Tulsi Gabbard used to be Fellow until it became too embarrassing? This seems awfully embarrassing, but maybe still revolution whatever.
