Say what you want about Trump being stupid but his delay strategy may be working once again. It has been almost 1 month since the Trump/Nauta indictments and no procedural hearings have been held yet. Nata's lawyer, Woodward is asking for an indefinite delay because he is involved in another trial. Woodward has defied judge Cannon's order to be prepared at any time. Woodward has not even filled out a form that must be done first before he can get a temporary security clearance to be able to view the classified documents, he was told 3 weeks ago.
Meanwhile Trump is going about doing what he must do to not go to jail, poison the jury pool. Trump knows he has been caught dead to rights, he will never be found not guilty, so he is delaying his trial as long as he can so that he can better make his argument that Smith and Garland are on a political witch hunt. The Iowa caucus is this January, by March Trump could be the Magat nominee for president. Did I mention that Trump got his favorite judge to preside over his case?
It appears the first delay may only be 4 days, but there will be more requests for delays by Trump's and Nauta's lawyers, how will judge Cannon respond?
Time Matters. Fani Willis may get Trump to trial before Jack Smith and it appears she may be running a RICO prosecution. Go Fani.
Remember, Trump's strategy has always been to delay everything. GOTV people.

Jack Smith will probably just move on to the January 6th. There are no secret document and the venue is in DC.

(49,047 posts)At some point, tRump will be
A) Indicted nominee.
or
B) Convicted nominee.
or
C) Shut out of GOP and running a MAGAt party third-party campaign.
None of those scenarios is good for GOP. Their best hope is that he is convicted before the convention so that they can shut him out.
If he is convicted between the convention and the Nov 2024 election, while their nominee, that would probably be the worst for the GOP. They would not be able to dump him and shove in a different nominee without tortuous convulsions.
There is a significant possibility that the Grumpy Old People party might become a dead-man-walking party after 2024.

(21,416 posts)is to taint the jury pool. Have you noticed his legal defenses have all been shot down. I just believe that the longer it drags out the better it will be for Trump to make his one argument to one juror, that Smith and Garland are partisan hacks going after the Magat nominee for president. Trump's only chance is for a hung jury. Just imagine what Trump is going to say at every one of his campaign rallies which will be amplified by the MSM.

...that's the only thing that gives validity to this haranguing about the DOJ which has ALREADY INDICTED TRUMP!
President Biden will clean the floor with the Criminal Defendant.
DOJ will continue to prosecute their cases with diligence and at a deliberative pace which ensures a unanimous verdict from a jury who must decide 'beyond a reasonable doubt' that Trump deserves to go to jail.
Whatever happens, justice is being done which has zero to do with the next election. That event is solely on voters to keep Trump from office. Neither indictment, nor imprisonment can keep Trump from running for office, so this internet-imagined race to a trial before the convention or the debates, or whatever is just a canard.
And the idea that's going around today because of a NYT politics article that Trump could pardon himself or get his AG to dimiss charges without a national political riot is just fearmongering. DOJ would object in court to a pardon, and an AG can't undo the actions of a special counsel.
