Sometimes, I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to the rules.
TFG announced his candidacy for the 2024 Presidential election last November, about a week after the 2022 midterms. Pretty early, but of course we know he did that so that he could claim that any legal action taken against his criminality would be (according to him) "election interference."
Well, the last I heard, TFG had not filed his financial disclosure with the FEC. This is supposed to be done within 30 days of announcing candidacy.
So as far as I'm concerned, DOJ has absolutely no legal obligation to view him as a bonafide candidate. After all--he "forgot to file his paperwork."

(96,882 posts)The ONLY DOJ policy is not taking any new action against a political candidate within 60 days of the Election. That would be September of 2024.

And I say, DOJ and the courts have every right to continue on their current path.

(19,800 posts)Sharing confidential/secret documents charges like Reality Winner was? As I recall she wasnt allowed bond. Also she was charged quickly and TFG was given months and months to return the docs. Id be interested in your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

(24,055 posts)It certainly doesnt affect DOJs role in his pending trial, as DOJ guidelines only apply to investigations, not trials.
Judge Cannon may have opinions about Trumps candidacy in relation to his trial, but we havent heard them yet.
The only impact Trumps candidacy will have is if DOJ still has open investigations into him after Labor Day 2024.
If the investigations have been completed by then, and indictments issued and trials pending (and at this point, there doesnt seem to any indication they wont be), then Trumps candidacy wont affect DOJs role or conduct.
Trumps compliance with the FEC seems to me to be irrelevant to DOJs investigations, although it may cause headaches elsewhere.
