(4,002 posts)Every day I see or read something about our Governor that just makes me love him more. He's exactly right.

(82,849 posts)The pearl-clutchers will complain that that meanie Gov. Newsome was badmouthing Ron DeSantis' parents, and he said two swears. Oh, and he hates freedom.

(9,316 posts)you may want to take a tiny bit of consolation from the fact that the sun doesn't actually rise in the east (or anywhere else), it's the rotation of the earth that makes it look that way.
Of course I'm sure you knew that. MAGAs, however, likely don't.

(455 posts).....that I have never heard of it. I like the idea, again no surprise, particularly the part about the ABCs of decency.

(18,315 posts)Newsom can certainly run in 2028!
Plus I like the fact as a governor from a blue state is bringing the heat to those governors in red states.

Mr.Bill
(24,906 posts)Newsom has recently been doing some heavy lifting for the Democratic Party by going to red states and campaigning for Democratic candidates and principles, and yes, building some national recognition for himself.

Got to love old school Democrats.

(5,444 posts)But if he thinks that the modern Authoritarian Party sprang suddenly from Southern Swamp, he is mistaken. EVERYTHING (and much worse) that I hear Gaetz, Boebert, Hawley, Cotton, Huckabee, etc. say, I heard as "generally accepted wisdom" a half century ago growing up in red, dead Texas. Obviously Mr Newsom will have to choose his running mate based upon their ability as a running mate to get elected. But I wish he could choose someone from a background of generational poverty.

(89,806 posts)I think Gavin Newsom is absolutely TERRIFIC!!!
If he ever runs for President, hes got my vote as of right now. And, to be superficial as hell, hes VERY handsome as well as being smart and articulate and right on the issues. And in this day and age, with THIS media world, good looks are currency. They can sway votes. And hes got a bank-full.

(23,046 posts)Bullies and jerks have been part of the human race forever. They were in view and status quo for most of the time I've been on the planet. We got a break the last few decades, because they got told to sit down and shut up. But when the crap about 'real men don't eat quiche' started up, it gave new life to the bullies and jerks. At no time ever is it okay to be a bully or a jerk, and people have a choice to grow, or remain a yahoo. Thanks to my Dad and his buddies, I know every ethnic slur used about every racial and cultural group in or near Cleveland. I chose not to emulate his blind acceptance of bias and hate.
I am old enough to know that too many people judge a book by its cover, not because they don't know how ro read, but because it is easier. But I do hope that the current acceptance of bullying and rudeness is beaten down, back under the rocks where it lurked. It will never die, but maybe it'll be less acceptable.

(40,635 posts)... but as an ally he kicks ass.
We've got many equally sharp sticks in the California Democratic arsenal, our Vice President Kamala Harris is one, but they are handicapped on the national stage because too many people in our shit-hole nation are racists, misogynists, and fascists, on the "left" and the "right." Mostly on the "right."
Gavin is a straight white guy so he's never had to be twice as good or work twice as hard just to stay in place. I'm certain he's aware of that but it is what it is.
RVN VET71
(3,186 posts)I don't mean he feels he owes his success to his skin color. But I do think knowledge of it makes him painfully and angrily aware of what it has done to non-whites in a society that is so clearly staggering backward away from notions of equality and justice.
The fact that he calls out DeSantis and the whole depraved brood of Trump-inspired Republicans, calls them out directly, makes me like this guy, like him a lot.
This.

(24,804 posts)about why you might not want to have him as a friend. For context, I am lifelong Californian who grew up near San Francisco. One of my first memories of GN is seeing him live on the local news standing on the steps of the SF city hall and telling reporters that marriage equality wad going to be legal and that it was a civil right. He said it matter of factly. This was decades ago, long before Obama or most Democrats gave marriage equality their full support. I was very impressed with him at the time.

I greatly admire those who can work within the political sausage factory.

(3,460 posts)Thank you Governor Newsom! We need more loud, tough talk from our Dems!! We have the moral high ground and we need to maximize it with unabashed truth telling. If it stomps on MAGAT heads, well all the better. That's exactly what we need right now.

(55,033 posts)and when Florida was mentioned (the topic was the CA state law requiring building inspections so that we don't do a repeat of the FL building collapse) everyone started talking at once, "You couldn't pay me to live there.....". The whole meeting then went off on a tangent discussing the BS in FL compared to CA and the state's many laws. Basically, we know that you have to pay for safety and be responsible. This is life in a responsibly run govt in a Blue State. We know you have to be responsible fiscally and to protect your residents. It may cost more money in the short term but it is more than paid back by the benefits in the long term.

(1,996 posts)I recently moved from California, back to the Land of Enchantment. My family has been here since the mid 1800's.
California was nice and awful at the same time. The people with money live an opulent lifestyle and the poor live on the streets.
I was neither but I could not afford to live there.
I voted for Newsom, supported him and was proud of him, not anymore than now.
It is my sincere hope he choses to run for president before I am gone.
I currently have two things I hope to see before the end. 1. Trump in chains and prison. 2. Gavin Newsom, President
