(22,565 posts)I had long hair in college, but my hair is so thick that washing and drying it was pretty much an all day job, and I got tired of it.
Part of me wishes it was long again so I wouldn't have to spend so much money on haircuts to keep it from turning into a bush, but every time I have tried, it drove me absolutely bonkers. Growing hair out from a short layered haircut is such a pita.

(7,353 posts)Having bullies for parents is a great help because they can model the behavior for their children. If the children do not have solid American bullies as parents, the may be fortunate enough to have sympathetic pro-bully strangers egg them on or laugh at their antics.

SunSeeker
(58,255 posts)As a woman who has raised a child and dropped him off and picked him up on a daily basis from elementary school for 6 years, I can say with quite a bit of certainty that I would pretty much have to be doing something very weird or obnoxious for the kids to even notice or acknowledge me, which they never did.
Why do you think there are "so many naughty women"? I don't. I think most women, and most people, are pretty decent. There are glaring exceptions of course...

(7,353 posts)Women seem to come in for a lot of criticism about behavior, looks, dress.
I do believe that children should not engage in name-calling no matter how a person presents.
In any case the post about seeking advice was not real but just someone capitalizing on the Karen meme.

(58,255 posts)But honestly, I've never had other people's kids call me names, have you?

(7,353 posts)Do you know? Was it mentioned? I did not see any incident mentioned, perhaps it was there.
Were these children with magical powers ? I think the heart of the matter in this scenario is that they knew they could be rude without repercussions.
Women being killed as witches is still happening in the world. In our country last year women lost the right to bodily autonomy. (Justice Alito managed to reference in his opinion an esteemed medieval witchcraft believe to bolster his argument against female autonomy.)
In some parts of our country women are being denied basic healthcare because they are being now valued as of less worth than a potential life.
Why is it that the enduring female busybody theme is now so popular while attempts to equalize with a male Ken have not gained traction?
The fact is men have been and still are the majority in power and muscle positions in our country and our system is male centered and male driven.
I dont think the gleeful focus on this 21st century version of the Karen stereotype is accidental. It serves to get us to focus negative attention on women instead of the mostly powerful men who are taking away our rights and aiming to further impoverish us.
We all know who Karen is; how many of us s know who Leo is?
The fact is many men and women fear going against male authority, when timid people get
scared there is a tendency to scapegoat. The Karen meme is meant to conjure up the image of a middle-aged who should shut up. Where will that get us in todays America.

(7,353 posts)Do you think this event actually happened or do you think it is a story made up by an individual who is capitalizing on the popularity of the Karen meme in American society?
I study the Karen meme as a sexist meme (there is no popular male equivalent) which is serving a group binding function in our society.
I would appreciate your sharing.

Back in those days we were treated badly on business trips and expected to order room service in the hotel. Classy restaurants would give us bad tables and slow service. If we demanded to be treated as well as men we were referred to as Karen, with snickers and eye rolling.
Imagine the nerve of single women wanting to be treated with the same respect afforded men in a public establishment.
We won that battle but when one lives in an unequal society the struggle never ends.

(7,353 posts)I follow the Karen meme as it pops up on some sites I use. It is basically an ant-female or sexist meme. I follow it to gauge how much sexism there is within a site.

(30,460 posts)and I too follow it only to gauge how much sexism there is within the site. I think you'll find there's no shortage of it here. As writer Katha Politt has noted, "Misogyny is the last acceptable bigotry of the Left"
