Majority of Republicans vote down Greene, Gaetz Ukraine bills

The Hill

Five House Republican-backed initiatives to curtail aid to Ukraine using the annual Pentagon policy bill were shot down Thursday afternoon in votes that saw a consensus from both sides of the aisle to keep money flowing to Kyiv.

The Ukraine-related amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) would have effectively limited or rolled back U.S. involvement in Ukraine, but a majority of Republicans joined Democrats in opposition to the proposals.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) put forth one amendment to strike $300 million in Ukraine funding that failed 89-341, with 130 Republicans joining all Democrats in voting against it.

Another proposal from Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), which would have prohibited all security assistance for Ukraine, similarly failed 70-358 on the House floor, with 149 Republicans opposing it.

contractors, we send the hardware. We designed and built all of that stuff to do what it's doing. Better Ukrainians using it than our guys. I just wish Eric Price would load up all his mercenaries to throw in there. Not really, that would cause a few more Ukrainian casualties, but we'd come out on the long end of the stick getting rid of that scum.

The primary driver of our trillion dollar a year defense budget, post Vietnam, was put in place by Reagan Republicans (why?...WAIT FOR IT) FOR THE SINGULAR PURPOSE OF DEFEATING THE RUSSIAN MILITARY, by one means or another.

The money were spending on Ukraine is a 10 to 1 steal, compared to what it would otherwise cost to achieve the same ends.

Give them the damn jets, and let them END THIS, already.

Russia doesn't even have to formally surrender. If they run the Russians out of their original territory, take one foot of russian ground to add to their own, retake Crimea, and then hold that ground without firing a shot for 90 days, let them into NATO. THEN if Russia counter-attacks (with what, btw), it's game on.

100 percent of GQP congress voted FOR every poison pill in the Defense spending last night. The unity is amazing. Not one GQP speaks out against Tuberville, and the “Colored People” rep, Cane. So United as a Nation. I never said the Dems are divided. It’s the Nation that is divided with death threats raining down and an all out effort to already turn over 2024 if it does not go their way. 2022 low turnout and shenanigans gave us this house, and we MUST not just move on from it. So sure, we can ALL relax and hold hands and dance into a fair and free 2024 election. Let’s all just move on from J6 as well. So yesterday. It’s 2022 that is trying to burn Biden to the ground, so why not, just move on from 2022. Got it. Thought it was GQP that wants to remove history and NOT learn from it.
I am so proud of President Biden. He is doing amazing things despite GQP BS. But do not for a minute think the billionaires will not pull out all stops to end his time. Much worse than 2022. So we can not just move on from it.
“Let’s KEEP going Brandon. You’re killing it”.
Nothing United about North Carolina or Florida. 2022 could have fixed a lot of that shit show, so never forget.

No need for panic news. I have to live in the middle of all the assholes, and a State that is trying to give legislatures the power to overturn elections. Trump flags and cheerleaders abound here. The district of Meadows and Cawthorn. No need to be concerned here. But thanks for you genuine civility. Much appreciated. Psychotic rant…….😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣. Just pointing out Putin’s (all part of any Ukraine war discussion) other army of propaganda is having a pretty successful campaign.
Bless your heart and have a sweet tea.
Thank you for your thoughts on my simple minded opinion. Calling the VA right now to ask my doc for a bucket, and move on. Great advice.

for military personnel needing an abortion, to go to other states that allow it if they are stationed in a state that doesn't.

The vote was 221 - 213 (with 2 Republicans in swing districts opposing and voting with Democrats, including Brian Fitzpatrick here in PA in PA-1). There were 6 members not voting (3 (D)s including my Rep. and 3 (R)s)

https://www.congress.gov/amendment/118th-congress/house-amendment/222
https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/2023300

https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/13/politics/ndaa-abortion-controversial-votes/index.html

They also slapped a bunch of amendments on to prohibit funding trans-care procedures.

This sucker would be DOA in the Senate and the Senate already has their own version that would probably be sent to the House as "an Amendment as a Substitute" to whatever garbage, if it passes the House, makes it to the Senate at all.

with all that crap on it, INCLUDING eliminating funding for the military to be used for "diversity, equity, and inclusion" (training, initiatives, programs), gender-affirming medical care, and to travel off base to other states for abortions.

From the OP excerpt here - https://www.democraticunderground.com/10143100428

Four Republicans voted against the bill, while four Democrats voted for it, support that rescued the defense measure from failure. The four GOP lawmakers who opposed the bill are: Reps. Eli Crane of Arizona, Andy Biggs of Arizona, Ken Buck of Colorado and Thomas Massie of Kentucky. The four Democrats who supported the package are: Reps. Jared Golden of Maine, Gabe Vasquez of New Mexico, Marie Gluesenkamp Pérez of Washington and Don Davis of North Carolina.

Am guessing that since the 4 GOP members listed who did vote against it are loon teabagger caucus members, I expect they didn't think the final version went far enough.

I think (and I am hoping and crossing fingers) that Bucks County is finally waking up. That Moms of Liberty school crap there seems to have gotten the attention of the sleepy liberal occasional voters and non-voters. That seat is do-able because Patrick Murphy (D) had the seat, albeit briefly, but that "Fitzpatrick" name seemed to override any sense of shame there (although it is also Philly RW cop haven up there too).
