Not the worst state but many on the "worst" states rank better in my book.

when I lived in CT and had driven through Jersey a few times.

If you just see the Turnpike and some of the urban areas (although Newark is now quite an attractive city), it looks compact, crowded. Then there are historical areas like where I live. I love driving past Edison's laboratory on my way to work. Within easy driving distance is Washington's headquarters.

My property is on a mountainside and I have a beautiful view of the NYC skyline. I live at the end of a dead end road and there is no traffic. My cat can go out and roam around without being run over in traffic. It is in the woods and very beautiful back here. Whenever I want to shop for anything, there are any number of good stores to choose from and within easy driving distance. I'm pretty sure it's still the highest paying state for teachers out of the 50 states.

And tomatoes grow beautifully here! We're the tomato state.

Progressive governor, Democrats control both houses. What more would one want?

84. Look, I am not a state basher.

There are wonderful aspects to all 50 states I'm sure. I have been in 48 of them and lived for an extended time in four of them (OR, AL, IL and AZ). I try and keep politics out of it because which party is in power in a state doesn't have much affect on people as far as their daily situation. When I lived in the South I found the people much friendlier than in other parts of the country. When I have visited the NE I have found the people not too friendly at all. Maybe just me?

CT and we had some strong donors in Litchfield. I always thought it was such a pretty town!

She lived there about ten years, I think, until her husband died and she retired from the bench (she was a judge)...Prior to that she did live right outside of New Haven..I can't recall the name of the town, but I remember it being on Long Island Sound, on a street called Townsend.

up on it and is now in San Francisco. She has no patience for it, growing up in ultra liberal New England.

I am a 3rd generation Texan and I wouldn't back to TX for anything. I love living in CT where I don't feel like I'm fighting all the time for just basic government programs that work for people. Abbott and his merry band of Republican haters have turned the state into one in service only to the rich. High property taxes, high insurance rates in some areas due to fire hazards for draught that climate warming exacerbates, no medical care for millions, high cost of homes, and constant attacks on personal rights, crowded roads because public transportation is limited and not favored by oil billionaires who want more cares on the roads using gas, poor utility grid because of a resistance to any regulation.

I love the Pacific Northwest. No wonder we are in the top 10. Other than an occasional earthquake or volcanic eruption, we have a fantastic climate. Both states have Democratic governors and senators. I live a few minutes from the Columbia Gorge and drove to Hood River for lunch today. The scenery is fantastic. I feel very lucky.
