https://nbc-2.com/news/2023/07/12/hundreds-of-thousands-of-vote-by-mail-requests-erased-from-floridas-system/Most everything has an expiration date, but one thing you may not have expected to expire was your vote-by-mail ballot.
NBC2 has learned hundreds of thousands of vote-by-mail requests have been wiped out of the system in every county in the state.
This means most of us right now will not receive a ballot in the upcoming March primary.
Lee County would like to have about 250,000 vote-by-mail requests in its system, but currently only has 23,000.
Its up to voters to reach out to the county they live in to request a ballot be mailed to them.

(28,493 posts)this is why I don't do vote by mail. I have the good fortune to live in New Mexico, where they have excellent advance voting, and you can vote anywhere in your county, no need to track down a specific polling place.

(39,648 posts)For some people, work schedules or transportation issues or child care issues... (a host of considerations, really) mail is the best option.
It is refreshing to hear that for some folks, voting in person is an easy option.

(28,493 posts)is that too many states don't have good advance voting. Here in NM it starts about six weeks before election day, and is either 5 or 6 days a week. I think 6.
Transportation issues I understand. Otherwise, with the kind of advance voting we have here work schedules shouldn't be an issue.
It should be easy to vote.

(39,648 posts)It definitely SHOULD be easy to vote.
I was just reminded of a situation in PA a few years ago... Hershey wasn't giving its employees any time off. I mean NONE. Reports were that they had been working for months without a day off. I read a story where one woman asked for 3 hours off to go watch her daughter graduate from high school and was denied.
This was a big story for me because apparently Hershey had been given a tax concession (or break) to expand on its facility, claiming (of course) that it would create jobs--but then failed to properly staff its operations. I'm never a fan of this stuff. Businesses need to do the right thing FIRST--then they can have a tax break.

Once the application is sent to the voter and returned to the Elections Office, the voter will receive every ballot for the entire years.
But we do apply for them every year.
Are they past a deadline to request applications?
We just request every January or at least early in the year.

(7,975 posts)Gotta watch those damned Repugs every second of every day!
I was down there for a 10 day visit in June - a few blocks south of Wilton Manor. We did all of our shopping and eating there, including Hamburger Mary's.
I had no idea DeSatan had, a month prior, signed a law (11:30 at night!!) that made drag shows illegal - so I guess we were at a bootleg drag show.
The morning after we went there, I read (right here
in DU) that the Hamburger Mary's chain took it before a Judge, and the Judge agreed with them and the law was void, I guess. No idea what happened after that, but it just goes to show - ya gotta watch those damned Repugs every second of every day!
