"Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood."
-- William Golding; Lord of the Flies; 1954; chapter 4, page 58.
I had a novel idea while watching the morning news. Imagine, if you will, a shipload of mainly republicans being stranded on an island. Recognizing that the opportunity exists for them to create a self-government based upon a mutated form of christian nationalism that worships the bloated pre-corpse of a sociopathis swine, they seek to inflict their fears and hatreds upon all inhabitants of the island.
Leadership is based upon three things: who has the biggest mouth, who tells the biggest lies, and who has a tiny, mushroom-shaped penis. The last qualification is required for leadership among this tribe of women-hating males, although their ranks will accept applications from women-hating women.
This is the classic setting for "crowd psychology" versus individuality with a twist of crowd psychopathy. The struggle between emotional urges and rational thinking. Immoral group passions versus individual morality. Scenes of sacrificing massive quantities of McDonald's french fries -- let's call them "freedom fries" -- to the orange blob. Heinz ketchup dripping from the walls.
I haven't gotten to where adults, led by Jack Smith, arrive to give these boys a damned good spanking. But I'm working on it. I'm thinking that the best outcome would be if the good people of the United States stand up and "kill" the maga swine in the 2024 election. Indeed, the 2024 election will not be a Hollyweird flick based upon my novel. It is real life, not reel life. We are facing a threat to our democracy that is more dangerous than any we have faced inhistory. And we have the opportunity to crush it. Let's roll.

(73,602 posts)Democratic Party in general, and President Biden specifically, are leading all sane people in the right direction. I think the maga cult will continue to seek to hang anyone who doesn't do what the orange blob demands.

It seems they fall in to one of those two categories.

(2,542 posts)Most of the "men" in the party (e.g., Cruz, Hawley, Paul, McCarthy, etc.) are terrified of her - she does that a few times until they figure out what's going. Then she kills 5-6 of them who decide to take her out as a group.
That could be a several chapter arc.

On a serious note, I think the issue of abortion is likely to get a portion of women who are registered republicans to vote for Democratic Party candidates in 2024. While that might seem a relatively insignificant amount, in close election contests, every vote counts. I think the maga cult has become too extreme for all thinking people.

(2,542 posts)I also think the reaction to the republican party's abhorrent platform will cost them quite a few votes. They recognize that too and have taken steps to disenfranchise as many voters as possible in states where they have power.
Their plans for making it difficult for college students, POC, and the disabled to vote might make up for some/most of the gains due to Roe v. Wade's reversal.

Apparently, the defendent has a "town hall" this evening. I look forward to hearing his rant against Jack Smith. I'm confident that he will be out of control.

(73,602 posts)A good friend had demanded that I post something yesterday. I started an essay last night, but told her this morning it would have to wait until at least tomorrow to post, due to today's excitement. Finally we compromised with me writing a quick throw-away, which this by definition is.

This is a wonderful day! I don't feel guilty taking breaks from my outdoor work to come in and check the news! It looks like possibly on Thursday the defendent will get some bad news. Very bad news!

(73,602 posts)that I've seen, his legal team is scrambling to find if others got a similar letter from Mr. Smith. Obviously, the defendent isn't going to appear before the grand jury between now and Thursday. I'm curious if his legal team will opt to meet with federal prosecfutors in that time period, as they did on the document case?

(73,602 posts)I think that by its nature, democracy means constant struggle. Thus, there have been numerous extremely important flash points, some before I was born, and many since. And I've seen a progression in the toxicity of that threat since 2000.
If enough of us are active participants in this struggle, we win. If not, everyone loses.
