In Target.
2 women holding hands on and off in line.
Behind them 2 women with what I call the Pentecostal hair do and summer skirts making one rude hateful comment after the next, just loud enough to be heard.
Behind them me. Impressed the 2 ladies holding hands were being that patient about it.
They paid and started to leave when one of the biddies in front of me said a little louder "You two need Jesus".
One of the hand holder ladies physically jerked. Body language it seemed like her partner tried to stop her, without success. Next thing I know she's turned back and standing 2 feet from the biddies. And she said in that hushed way people talk when they are livid ...
"Ma'am, I know how to be a decent human being, but if you need Jesus to help you stop being such a hateful bitch. Then please do."
The pearl clutching commenced.
Best thing so far this week.

(32,988 posts)They are trying to censor the collection. I can have my say about them for three minutes, but the library director has put a full stop to any name calling. I am there along with some friends, to support the board and director.
One of them has a license plate that says, "BLESSED." How can anyone so filled with hate be blessed?

(14,591 posts)There are Bible stories where Jesus would cruise into town, speak to the crowds, but then head off to sup and sleep at the house of the local tax collector, the one man all the regular Jesus followers in town despised, hated, mocked. They all seem to get pissy about why He would not choose THEIR house to spend the night at, since they are SO much better people than the tax man.
Far too many of today's "Christians" don't recognize that THEY are the jealous, pissy rabble in town, and not the humble, modest folk that Jesus always chose to spend His down time with. They are, rather, the ones to whom Christ wishes to demonstrate the lessons of love, acceptance, and understanding, for they are the ones that most need to learn it.

(5,838 posts)First, why jump to the fact that two people holding hands are gay? Maybe just good friends, cousins, sisters, etc?
Second, even if there is a gay couple holding hands, what the hell business is it of anyone else????? Let's celebrate love!
Third, why, oh, why, is HATRED of others now a good "Christian" value??????

(595 posts)Jesus said nothing about homosexuality. Had Jesus believed it mattered I'm sure he would have said something. No one has even tampered with the New Testament in the last two thousand years to put words in his mouth. The Old Testament is filled with things that modern Christians ignore (like pro slavery stuff) and they just pick and choose what they think matters.

(9,354 posts)the pro-slavery stuff.
The stuff they ignore is stuff like not mixing fibers in garments and not touching the skin of a dead pig (gotta have their football) and forced abortion for adulteresses.

(22,590 posts)I am so impressed with the way that woman stood up to those hate mongers.
But I am dying to know what you meant by the pentecostal hairdo. The only thing I can think of is those ladies who never get their hair cut because the Bible says a woman's hair is her "glory." Is that it? I knew a girl like that in high school. Never cut her hair and always wore it braided and pinned up on top of her head. Then there was Kim Davis, that county clerk in Kentucky who made the news by rlefusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples after Obergefell. She wore her extremely long hair down in all the photos I saw of her.
Not sure why I'm so curious about this. Maybe it's because we didn't have many of those pentecostal types where I live. The bigots are more likely to attend one of the evangelical megachurches and do their hair however they want.

(12,667 posts)I was thinking more along the lines of helmet hair. But my sister is very religious and she has that never been cut long hair you speak of. Weird that the top parts of her hair are gray and curly. While the last foot is her younger color and straight.
All my hair has been curly all my life, though I'm gray. And she would tease me about my curls when we were kids. "You stuck your finger in a light socket", kind of comments, kids stuff. Now she gets curls and loves them. I never knew hair could change texture too as we get older.

I don't think these folks are actually serving Christ...more like the other guy.
