Be Prepared

When the Tea Party first emerged, I was puzzled by their very existence. Before the movement was co-opted by the Big Money Republican Machine (TM), I couldn't figure out why a group of mostly blue-collar, working class voters would find themselves pissed at the Democrats. I know, I know, some Democrats have gone over to the dark side with regard to corporate influence, but for the Average Joe, how could you be opposed to the party of FDR?

Mostly it was because they were lied to, and when you're predisposed to being pissed off, it's easy to accept comforting lies that reaffirm your sense of being aggrieved. And so immigration became the reason why your textile mill closed, and your inability to afford college for your kid was somehow connected to gay marriage. And dammit, somebody out there is going to take away my gun. As so a lot of voters who had historically been part of the Democratic coalition found themselves voting for Romney -- who is frankly the poster boy for the REAL cause of what ails them.

Now Republicans are starting to splinter. Bill Kristol is saying that raising taxes on the wealthy wouldn't be so bad. John Boehner says that Obamacare is "the law of the land" and Bobby Jindal is saying that Republicans have to stop being the guardians of the One Percent. While it's going to be fun to watch, we need to be prepared.

Not because they're going to co-opt our message, but because we now have an opportunity to start a dialogue with some erstwhile Republicans. Once their eyes are opened by their party leaders, we have an opening to win many of these former lunch-bucket Democrats back to the fold. Once they realize that abortion and gay rights have ZERO effect on their personal interests, we're halfway toward driving a stake into the heart of the Republican Party.

I saw we make the best of this chance.

The rank and file weren't conjured from nothing. But I think the movement very quickly became a Republican surrogate.

Sorry don't have the link right now. But he said that about a month into the movement they got money from Dick Armey, and organizational help. He was happy, until he was pushed out as his creation was coopted. After OWS emerged he went to Zucotti, within a day, and addressed the General Assembly as a warning.

He became very active in OWS.

Here is a link to this part of the story, one of many.

The fact that so many blue-collar white people are pissed at the dems can be directly attributed to the voting rights act & the civil rights act that was passed by the dems in the 60's. It's just good old fashioned racsism. Then, you add faux nees and a.m. radio. These "news" outlets reassure the bigots with coded language (or, dog whistles if you like), legitimizing they're beliefs. Since these "journalists" tell them what they want to hear regarding our diverse society, it's much easier to accept the wholesale b.s. that's spoonfed to them. That's my humble opinion anyway.

Do you think that then, in order to distinguish ourselves, we will move farther to the left? That is an interesting concept to ponder. Could the political pendulum be beginning to swing back in our direction again?

I was a child of the 60's, and after the deluge, I never thought I would see "our movement" happen again in my lifetime.

Our message is fine. Once the ice has cracked and the former Republicans find that they can make up their own mind, we'll draw them in.

Doesn't have to be a lot, mind you (and it certainly won't be). I'm talking about 1-2% of the Republican vote that realizes that they've been duped. 1-2 percent puts the swing states permanently out of reach and makes North Caroline, Missouri and a couple other states "on the table."

"Negro"? Seriously?

And by the way, the names for various political ideologies have changed over the years, but the core values don't. What were called "Republicans" in Lincolns day would be considered far left wing today and the "Southern Democrats" of the 1960's would all be Republicans today.

Conservative political ideology has been on the wrong side of history since time immemorial.

And you...well.....you are amusing, if nothing else.

Or should I call you on the phone?

Look, this is a board for liberals and progressives. No one is silencing you, it's just that if you want to spout your right wing nonsense, you're on the wrong forum. This is a privately owned web domain and the owners are free to limit posting privileges and posts in any way they deem fit.

It's apparent you have no idea how to be civil, as your first post included rascist terminology and had a personal insult toward someone you don't know at all.

Get over yourself already and go post on one of the scores of right wing message boards if you don't like it here
