(576 posts)I had the same thought. If I read the article correctly, it sounds as though a student in attendance is a family friend of Dan Patrick's. She reported what was allegedly said to Patrick. Word got back to TX A&M and they took action against the professor. After investigating, most students said the professor made only some small reference to Patrick's policies on the opioid crisis. A&M found no wrongdoing and reinstated the professor. So many issues! Professor's 1A rights. Student who was so bent out of shape because she felt Patrick was criticized. If public figures can't take the heat, they need to get out of the kitchen. Or how about welcoming discourse with the professor?

(26,058 posts)The University investigated and found no wrong-doing, and she was reinstated.
For better or worse, universities always start by taking student complaints seriously and do an investigation. In this case, they found nothing worth punishing the professor for. But there have been other cases where professors have faced consequences. This article has a good overview of what professors now have to deal with:
