Just hitting the wires. She was 56. No cause that I've seen yet.

I recently read her autobiography -- highly recommended. It will give you a very interesting insight into Prince, though, and it won't be a positive one, to say the least.

(13,077 posts)Anyone who could swing the Chieftains as a backing band had something going on.
And back through the glen, I rode again
And my heart with grief was sore
For I parted then with valiant men
Whom I never shall see n'more.
But to and fro in my dreams I go
And I kneel and pray for you
For slavery fled, O glorious dead
When you fell in the foggy dew.

I know that the actor Caitriona Balfe, herself Irish, was very pleased to have Sinead sing the theme song this season. Nice tribute over on Instagram.

(793 posts)First thing I thought of, at the news of O'Connor's death, was her son's suicide. I, myself, am a suicide "survivor." My brother was 23-years old when he took his own life. For myself and others "survivors" of my brother, I don't think one ever gets over it. The so-called "trick" is to learn how to live with the most punishing, guilt-crushing, on-your-knees grief that I have ever known. It was as if my family members were lined up across a highway, mowed down by a semi, but managed to "survive" it with open wounds that do not heal. Someone once said that "Grief is the price we pay for love."
I am truly heart-broken about O'Connor.

(72,478 posts)I could only listen to it all the way through three or four times. The sheer, raw emotional punch was overwhelming. I dont think Ive listened to it in the last thirty years or so. But I still know Three Babies word for word.
Ive heard that she shaved her head because she didnt want to be known for her looks. But I cant be the only one who thought it added to her haunting beauty.
Death could not have taken her easily. He would have had a fight on his hands.

(1,672 posts)One of the last things she did was sing the theme song for the latest season (#7) of Outlander:
Outlander - The Skye Boat Song
Song by Bear McCreary
Sing me a song of a lass that is gone
Say, could that lass be I?
Merry of soul, she sailed on a day
Over the sea to Skye
Billow and breeze, islands and seas
Mountains of rain and sun (mountains of rain and sun)
All that was good, all that was fair
All that was me is gone
Sing me a song of a lass that is gone
Say, could that lass be I?
Merry of soul, she sailed on a day
Over the sea to Skye
Sing me a song of a lass that is gone
Say, could that lass be I?
A beautiful song for a beautiful lass!
