As federal prosecutors move closer to a potential indictment against former President Donald Trump related to the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach said the former president should not be legally culpable for the riot that followed Trumps rally in Washington that day.
In an interview with The Star Thursday, Kobach said Trumps monthslong effort to sow doubt in the 2020 presidential election was protected by the First Amendment. He also cited Trumps statements on Jan. 6, 2021 urging a peaceful protest.
I dont think any politician should be considered criminally culpable for merely expressing his or her thoughts about the conduct of an election, Kobach said.
Trumps legal team met with members of Special Counsel Jack Smiths team Thursday ahead of a potential indictment, according to the Associated Press.

So much for the claim by the GOP as being the party of law and order and personal responsibility.

(35,176 posts)he is a mean, bigoted blockhead.
Seriously, why would this even make the news? He means nothing except for us who have to deal with him. We walked around for days scratching our heads wondering how in the hell anyone in Kansas would ever want to see this moron in office ever again. It is not like he left with love.
He is just trying to climb. He was pushed off his run for higher office and kicked in the crotch but he is that kind of guy who believes you can always come back. Apparently our voters in Kansas are not smart enough to realize what he was he still is and his "change" (if there was one) was only to get back in office.
