**note Van Orden is a J6er**Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.) is in hot water after he cursed out a group of teenage Senate pages in the Capitol rotunda early Thursday morning.
According to a transcript written by a page minutes after the incident and obtained by The Hill, Van Orden called the pages jackasses and pieces of s‑‑‑, and told them he didnt give a f‑‑‑ who you are.
The pages are a group of 16- and 17-year-olds who assist Senate operations, and when the Senate works late as it did Wednesday night on National Defense Authorization Act amendments pages generally rest nearby in the rotunda.
Wake the f‑‑‑ up you little s‑‑‑‑. What the f‑‑‑ are you all doing? Get the f‑‑‑ out of here. You are defiling the space you [pieces of s‑‑‑], Van Orden said, according to the account provided by the page.
Who the f‑‑‑ are you? Van Orden asked, to which one person said they were Senate pages. I dont give a f‑‑‑ who you are, get out.
You jackasses, get out, he added.
The incident, which occurred just after midnight, outraged members of the upper chamber, with one calling the string of remarks horrible.

WASHINGTON Freshman Republican U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden reportedly yelled and cursed at a group of high school-aged Senate pages while giving a late-night tour of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.
Van Orden, who represents Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District, called the pages "lazy s----" and told them to "get the f--- up" off the floor as the pages were lying on their backs in the Capitol Rotunda taking pictures of the building's dome during their final week at work, according to PunchBowl News.
Senate pages are typically high school-aged teens nominated by their home state senator to help out around the Senate side of the Capitol, opening doors for senators and delivering correspondence, among other tasks.
In an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Thursday, Van Orden did not dispute the report but rather noted the Capitol Rotunda was used as field hospital during the Civil War for "countless" Union soldiers.
"I would think that Id be terribly disrespectful to lay on the grave of a soldier that died fighting for freedom," Van Orden told the Journal Sentinel. "And I don't know anybody that disagrees."
He added later in an emailed statement that the Capitol "should never be treated like a frat house common room. Threatening a congressman with bad press to excuse poor behavior is a reminder of everything thats wrong with Washington. Luckily, bad press has never bothered me and if it's the price I pay to stand up for what's right, then so be it."

GOP congressman says he's being 'threatened' with 'bad press' after screaming and cursing at teenagers in the Capitol late at night
Republican Rep. Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin screamed at a group of Senate pages high school-aged teenagers who work in the Senate as assistants after coming across a group of them laying in the Capitol Rotunda on Wednesday evening.
One of the pages jotted down a transcript of the interaction shortly after it occurred, later providing it to The Hill after Punchbowl News first reported the interaction on Thursday.
"Wake the fuck up you little shits. What the fuck are you all doing? Get the fuck out of here. You are defiling the space you [pieces of shit]," Van Orden said, according to The Hill.
"Who the fuck are you?" Van Orden asked. When informed that they were Senate pages, he reportedly replied: "I don't give a fuck who you are, get out."
It's not the first angry outburst by Van Orden, who traveled to Washington, DC on the day of the January 6 riot but has insisted that he didn't enter the Capitol. He once threatened a Wisconsin library staffer over a books display that included books that cover LGBTQ themes.
In response to the coverage of the late-night altercation, Van Orden confirmed that the incident occurred and issued a statement arguing that he'd been "threatened with bad press" for his outburst.

(60,182 posts)I was a summer substitute for the regular year-round guys on vacation to their home states. I was 15, living in Northern Virginia, and my dad drove me to and from work, since his office at 14th and F wasnt too far from the Capitol.
Those kids work incredibly long hours, plus the regular year-round ones have to complete their high school educations on off-hours or weekends. Its an honor and a privilege to be chosen for the job, but if my two weeks as a summer sub were any indication, it demands a lot of stamina to keep from burning out.
For some alcohol-infused Republican Congressman to appear out of nowhere and yell obscenities at them is just beyond all limits. Kudos to the one who transcribed what the offending Republican said and dared to report it.
Im sure the short term consequences will be someone from the Senate having words with McCarthy, who will look into it, and do nothing. But if this low-life is a first termer, maybe the local Wisconsin Democrats can make use of this to challenge him if its a swing district, or fund a primary challenger if his Democratic challenger had no chance.

Was that party in Van Orden's office a warm-up for one of the famous GOP cocaine orgies? And, yes. I believe Madison Cawthorn's claims about them.

On June 17, 2021, Van Orden confronted a staff member at Prairie du Chien Memorial Library in indignation over a display of books with LGBT themes assembled for Pride Month.
Van Orden was particularly upset by the book A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo, about a fictional day in the life of Marlon Bundo, the real-life pet rabbit of former Vice President of the United States Mike Pence, and the rabbit's subsequent same-sex romance.
Van Orden submitted a written complaint to the library that the book was "skewing young people to think that Republicans are not inclusive. This book is not informational, it is propaganda".
A staff member described Van Orden as "very uncomfortable, threatening" with "full-on shouting" and "aggressively shoving the books around". He wanted to know who had established the display so he could "teach them a lesson". Van Orden subsequently withdrew all the books on display out of the library and then returned them within a week.

(24,486 posts)Wisconsin's 3rd congressional district was represented by a Democrat (Ron Kind) for 20 years. Geographically it had been a solid area but gerrymandered it had a long finger on it that added a lot of Republican voters to the district. So no, we didn't "all" decide to vote for him.

(18,840 posts)We went from Kind, to this nut. D3 voters put him in. Easy for me to say sitting in a packed D2 with the great Mark Pocan.
I said the same thing about the crummy Tom Tiffany in D7. Gerrymandering or no, idiot Wisconsinites said yeah, Ill vote for that!

(24,486 posts)The ones who voted for Van Orden put him in, but they were never going to vote for Pfaff anyways. Too many who would have voted for Pfaff never bothered to vote, a lesson that too many in Wisconsin didn't learn from 2010 when Democrats controlled state government but completely lost control to Republicans in 1 election election when too many on the Left became complacent and didn't bother to vote in the off year election.
There were 389,394 votes cast in that presidential election year. In '22 there were 72,000 fewer votes cast and Van Orden won by 12,000. So he lost by 10,000 in '20, won by 12,000 in '22, a turnaround of 22,000 votes. Where was Pfaff, a dud of a candidate, looking for votes in the final weeks? In the solid red rural areas that were never going to vote for him rather than getting out the vote in the larger cities and colleges where there were votes to be had.
When Democrats choose to self suppress their vote, bad things happen. The 3rd district was Democratic for 20 years. The votes are there to defeat Van Orden with the right candidate and that is not, not, not Brad Pfaff. Plus, the new Liberal controlled state supreme court may help out with the gerrymandering.

(18,840 posts)I guess my point is knowing hes a nut and theres an alternative that is not a nut, Wisconsin Republicans say Im okay with a freak and pulled the lever for this guy.
If the Dem candidate was a freak, we would work like heck to get a good candidate!
They gleefully vote for crap.
I am SOOOO looking forward to next week! The cases cannot come soon enough.

(2,926 posts)And by Monday, Van Orden will be changing his tune after a weekend of getting barbecued by the press and the social media over his behavior. All those bottles and that full garbage can shows there was a lot of drinking going on and Van Orden was probably pretty inebriated when he went on his tirade.
I expect a half-hearted apology where he'll try to play the victim in some way some time next week. This could end up like a mini soap opera especially if Mrs. Van Orden gets pissed off over the bad publicity and lights into hubby. Stay tuned!
