(38,013 posts)seeing you deleted it?

(8 posts)It's somewhat antiquated.

(38,013 posts)But I'm not convinced of your sincerity. Use of "Dago" is very offensive here.

(8 posts)Some Italian-Americans I know, find the word, "Meatball" when used in a negative context, to be a bit on the racist side. Trump didn't just pick the word, "Meatball" out of a hat when he used it to disparage Desantis. DeSantis is a piece of filth, but, we don't need to engage in racism ourselves became of our anger with him. We must hold onto our dignity. Remember when Hulk Hogan fought Rocky in Rocky 2 or maybe 3? What did he call Rocky Balboa? You guessed it, "Meatball."

(38,013 posts)as the opposite with your first post. I'm sure you noticed the replies to you other than mine.
Your explanation is very good, but I'd be more diplomatic in the future.

(8 posts)Thank you, nonetheless. Now I must retire for the evening. Green lights and blue skies to you.

(71,919 posts)... were called meatballs, it wasn't because we were Italians. It had to do with we were all at least a little out of shape.
I don't buy your argument for a moment.
I am offended by your blitheness over this.

(8,090 posts)How is "meatball" a pejorative?
I'm partial to "DeSanctimonious" and "Tiny D," but there's probably other good ones out there...
Little Buddy
(8 posts)"Taco Ted"? Could that be construed as a pejorative? Fish taco, Tuna taco, Taco Tuesday.

(8,090 posts)What is "taco" slang for?
Honestly, I couldn't care less what you or anyone calls Carnival Cruz, but I wouldn't insult tacos that way.

(8 posts)The word, "Blockhead" was a racist term given to Swedish immigrants, obviously casting doubt on their intelligence. "Blockhead" in other parts of the country has no such baggage
SMC22307
(8,090 posts)It means "stupid person," whether used in Maine, Mississippi, or Minnesota, no? There's a slur that was used against Northern Europeans based on the stereotypical shapes of their heads.

(6,780 posts)Yet, you're the one using a bigoted term for italians in your OP.
Stop while you're behind, pal.

(13,027 posts)looked it up on Google, the only items I found were recipes and restaurants: Italian or Swedish. I do know that "Dago" is a word we don't use here and I do know that De Santis is a racist p.o.s.who disrespects the V.P. every time he purposely mispronounces her name.
Welcome to DU.

(52 posts)If you notice, Desantis changes the pronunciation of his own name frequently. The guy is a pathetic, petty, racist, fascist. His wife is actually worse. He's the Eva Braun to her Hitler.
And it's never a bad time to bring up his Navy job where he was the ASSISTANT URINALYSIS COORDINATOR, his job was to make sure that the penis he was watching urinate into the cup belonged to the man who's name was on the cup.
My hope is that Desantis goes the way of Scott Walker.

(22,582 posts)I have been resisting using the meatball nickname for DeSantis myself, simply because it came from Trump. Even though Ronnie White Boots deserves any insults people feel like dishing out to him, I don't like the idea of helping to popularize any of the nicknames Trump bestows on people, just on principle. (I don't call Rubio "Little Marco" for the same reason.)
This is purely a personal choice on my part, and I don't expect anyone to necessarily agree. I feel pretty good about it, especially if it's offensive to Italian Americans. But it's definitely a YMMV kind of thing.
